Automobile Industry
The automotive industry designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and sells the world's motor vehicles. The automotive industry is one of the most important economic sectors by revenue.

History of Automobile Industry

The first car was built by Joseph Cugnot in 1769. It was powered by a steam engine and was very slow.

Jean Joseph tienne Lenoir was the first to build the one cylinder engine, internalcombustion engine, was later patent.

Nikolaus August Otto built the first four cylinder engine. In 1886 Gottlieb Daimler designed the first four wheeled automobile. They also created the first v-slanted engine. Karl Benz, know as one of the founders of Mercedes-Benz, is the first to build an automobile powered by an internal combustion engine.

Hybrid cars have also been around since the 1900s. In the 1900s Ford made more steam and electric cars than it did gasoline. The first hybrid commercial truck was built in 1910, and as the gasoline engine was refined interest in hybrids died down. As problems with environment and gas process continue, Hybrids are now a hot commodity in the market place and are now the new wave of future cars

Engines are like the heart of an automobile and function likewise. The engine is made up of seven main parts; the engine block, cylinder head, cylinders, pistons, valves, crankshaft, and camshaft. The engine is also divided into two main parts; an upper section and a lower section. The lower section of the engine is called the engine block.

20th Century and Years upon


In the 1920s they started to evolve and install synchromesh transmissions for easier gear shifting; four-wheel hydraulic brake systems; improved carburetors; shatterproof glass; balloon tires; heaters; and mechanically operated windshield wipers In the 1930s car engines and bodies became large and luxurious.

Between the 1950s and 1960s American manufacturers started making smaller cars, but their engine size and horsepower increased. By the 1980s Technology started to grow in America because of new Japanese innovations and imports.

Automobile Industry Present Days


As the 21st century progressed, cars improve and computer technology began to be utilized in cars. Cars today are now mostly controlled by computer chips. The computer chip manages most of the car systems today. For instance, the anti-lock brake system is controlled by a computer chip telling, them when to work

They also have GPS systems in cars that help provide directions and guides drivers. Some cars now come equipped with GPS locator beacons, enabling a GPS system operator to locate the vehicle, map its location, and if necessary, direct repair or emergency workers to the scene. Cars are now made of lighter materials that are quite very strong.

General Motors (GM)


The General Motors Company, also known as GM, is a United States-based automaker with its headquarters in Detroit, Michigan, Founded on 1908 By sales, GM ranked as the largest U.S. automaker and the world's second-largest for 2008,[3] having the third-highest 2008 global revenues among automakers GM officially ranks as the worlds second largest manufacturer as measured by OICA in 2009

Facts of GM
GM employs 205,000 people in every major region of the world and does business in some 157 countries. GM and its strategic partners produce cars and trucks in 31 countries Brands:Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, FAW, GMC, Daewoo, Holden, Jiefang, Opel, Vauxhall and Wuling GM's largest national market is China, followed by the United States, Brazil, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Italy.

General Motors History


The company was founded on September 16, 1908, in Flint, Michigan, as a holding company for Buick, then controlled by William C. Durant.

General Motors Innovation


GM was the first American company (in the modern era) to release an all-electric automobile. In 1990 GM has prided its research and prototype development of hydrogen powered vehicles, to be produced in early 2010, using a support infrastructure still in a prototype state.

General Motors Future


GM will build battery packs with LG Chem in Michigan. GM also plans to build an automotive battery laboratory in Michigan. GM will be responsible for battery management systems and power electronics. GM produces several flexible-fuel vehicles that can operate on E85 ethanol fuel or gasoline, or any blend of both.
