HMI SYSTEMS
SYLLABUS
Necessity and Role in Industrial Automation
Text display
operator panels
Touch panels
Panel PCs
Integrated displays
If left by itself, a PLC generally lacks the capability of displaying those signal
values and algorithm variables to human operators.
NECESSITY
A technician or engineer with access to a personal computer and the requisite
software for editing the PLC’s program may connect to the PLC
View the program’s status “online” to monitor signal values and variable
states
But this is not a practical way for operations personnel to monitor what the
PLC is doing on a regular basis.
NECESSITY
In order for operators to monitor and adjust parameters inside the PLC’s
memory
Though it is not as plenty and vivid as colorful graphical interface, it still can
convert many program codes into text and graphical display and show on Text
Panel.
Delta Text Panel is known for its simple operation and control function.
It has the advantages of light weight, cost-effective price and good flexibility in use,
which can help the user to quickly control the system and improve working
efficiency.
OPERATOR PANELS
• HMI (Human Machine Interface) Panels
are placed on the work floor (inside the factory)
close to the machinery.
• In this way the operator can efficiently control
the installation.
• Important is to give extra attention to the
robustness of these panels.
OPERATOR PANELS
• The Operator Panel enables interaction between
humans and machines and makes the Human
Machine Interface (HMI).
• The panels usually include LCD display with an
attached touch display, which replaces old
fashioned HMIs with bulky push-buttons, levers,
analog indicators, etc.
INTERFACING PLC WITH HMI
INTRODUCTION
• The HMI unit, depending upon which model you
select, will communicate with the PLC using
serial communications or by way of an
Ethernet connection.
