INTRODUCTION
A Road Safety Audit (RSA) is a systematic procedure , which brings traffic
safety knowledge into the road planning and design process with the purpose of
preventing traffic accidents.
It is carried out by an independent team of trained people to address the safe
operation of a roadway and to ensure a high level of safety for all road users.
2
OBJECTIVES OF RSA
To consider the safety of the road under different conditions, such as under all
level of accident risk.(weather conditions & different time of a day)
To consider financial and design problems.
To design out safety problems and to reduce post-construction remedial work.
3
BENEFITS OF RSA
Minimise the risk and severity of road crashes.
Minimise the need for remedial works after construction. Reduce the whole Life
Cycle costs of the project.
Improve the awareness of safe design practices in planning, design, construction
and maintenance of roads.

STUDY AREA
State Highway 69 (SH 69) is a State
Highway in Kerala, India that starts in
Thrissur and ends in Thrikkanapuram
near Kuttippuram ( joins National
Highway 66). The highway is 52.65 km
long. The strech under analysis is choosen
as the road section starting from
perumbilavu to trissur

over a period of fifteen years from 2015 to 2019.
Major Findings: • More number of accidents have occurred during peak hours.
• Majority of accidents have occurred during 8am to 12pm and 4pm to 6pm of the
day.

Suggest required measures.
Major Findings • Most of the blackspots are present near NAMMA METRO-Bengaluru
construction sites.
• Intelligent transport system has to be implemented in Bengaluru city
for efficient management of traffic.
• Awareness and accountability has to improve among the road users.

• Role of highway geometrics in increasing accident rates.
• Spot speed studies.
• Road safety audit.
Major Findings • Heavy vehicles like truck are involved in maximum number of accidents on two lane roads.
• NH-75 design speed is 80 km/h but from the spot speed it shows that the max speed of the
