Speed Control of DC Motor Using Ultrasonic Sensor

This document describes the development of a project to control the speed of a DC motor using an ultrasonic sensor and pulse width modulation. The project aims to provide an efficient and simple method for variable speed control. It uses an Arduino, motor controller module, ultrasonic sensor, and DC motor. The ultrasonic sensor detects objects at different distances and sends signals to the Arduino to vary the pulse width and control the motor speed in 3 levels accordingly. The system provides automation with variable speed control of the DC motor through a simple design.

SPEED CONTROL OF DC MOTOR USING

ULTRASONIC SENSOR (3 SPEED)

INTRODUCTION

Today’s industries are increasingly demanding process automation in all

sectors.
Speed control means intentional change of drive speed to a value required
for performing the specific work process.
The variable speed drives, which can control the speed of A.C/D.C motors,
are indispensable controlling elements in automation systems.
Depending on the applications, some of them are fixed speed and some of
them are variable speed drives
PROBLEM STATEMENT

Developing a project which helps towards

providing efficient and simple method for
control speed of DC motor using pulse width
modulation technique.
OBJECTIVES
• Automation results into better quality, increased production and reduced
costs.
• The versatile characteristics of dc motors can provide high starting torques
which is required for traction drives.
• Control over a wide speed range, both below and above the rated speed
can be very easily achieved.
• The methods of speed control are simpler andless expensive than those of
alternating current motors

CONCLUSION

• It fulfils all the requirements for its application.

• The motor responds to the average value of the pulses and not to the
individual pulses as the chopper works at high frequency.
• Changing the duty-cycle of the pulse by changing the speed of
regulator changes the average voltage level.
• It is possible to improve overall performance of the motor speed.
DRAWBACKS / FUTURE SCOPE
• Suppression of heat is required.
• When these sensors are used for inspection purpose then these should must
be water-resistive otherwise they could be damaged.
• It has more difficulties in reading reflections from the soft, curved, thin,
and small object.
• Differentiate between two objects.
• Sound to notify about the objects
• Creating a light system.
