LESSON 1 HUMAN AS
EMBODIED SPIRIT
At the end of this lesson you are expected to:
1. Determine the differences among human persons, body soul and spirit;
2. Analyze how embodiment defines a person; and
3. Show appreciation on the importance of determining the different traits of
the human person.
ACTIVITY 1
What makes me, me?
DIRECTION: Complete the diagram by writing the different traits that
makes you unique among others.
What is It
The Human Person
Abella (2016), describes human being to its relations to animals, he added that
Philosophers, however, believe that the human being is not just a mere animal and
that there is something in the human that sets him or her apart from other beings
which these special traits make a human as a distinct individual person.
ACTIVITY 2.
I am a Human Person
DIRECTIONS: On the graphic organizer given, write in the boxes the
characteristics of the human person.
ACTIVITY 3
We are a 3-part whole
DIRECTIONS: Looking on the diagram below, do you agree that “Human Person
has body, soul and spirit”? Explain your answer on the space provided.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
1. The human being is not only Homo-sapiens but as a unique person, and an
individual that has its own awareness of the self.
2. Person when defined as a human being have certain rights, protection,
responsibilities, and dignity above all.
3. The human person has the entirety of an individual, having awareness, self
determination, the capacity to interact with others and with dignity.
4. Soul causes the body to live and animates the body.
5. Spirit refers to the intangible element that enables us to exercise thought,
possess awareness, interiority and the capacity to reach out to the outside world
and other persons.
6. Human spirit as an embodied spirit means that both the human body and spirit
define human nature and experience; the body and spirit come together to form
a whole, and this integration defines the embodiment of the person and the
human person’s nature as an embodied spirit gives rise to the characteristics
that define the person.
WHAT CAN I DO
In the space provided, list down the positive traits that you have and explain how
those traits benefit humankind. Cite concrete examples.
LESSON 2
Evaluating Human Beings Limitations and
Transcendence
At the end of this lesson you are expected to:
1. Explain what is limitations and transcendence;
2. Evaluate own weaknesses and how to overcome it; and
3. Realize that being embodied restricts a man in a lot of ways.
DIRECTIONS: Read the given statement and elaborate
it based on your own understanding, write your answer
on the space provided.
“Embodiment enables us to do and experience all the things that make us human persons”
Embodiment gives us the opportunity to do all the things that human person
does, but we cannot always say that our own body is limitless. As we called
human
person as embodied spirit, we also embrace the idea that there are things that
we cannot do and there are limitations which make us a human as well.
My “I can” and “I cannot”
Explore your abilities and limitations. In the “I can”, write down the
skills and
abilities that define you as a person. In the “I cannot”, list down the
things you have
tried to do but could not because of your personal limitations.
Answer the following guide questions:
1. What enabled you to do things you identified in the “I can” part?

2. Do you see yourself overcoming the limitations that prevented you from
doing the things you stated in the “I cannot” side?

Human Nature and Limitations
Human nature, being an embodied
spirit has its own limit. It can be said
that the person is a very biologically
deficient being. Let us say for example
that we do not have the natural ability to
fly, we cannot breathe underwater, and
we cannot even survive in certain
environments like other animals. But
despite these limitations, we have used
our intellect to devise means to achieve
several feats such as building aircraft, breathable devices underwater, and
other
mechanisms that helps human to overcome its deficiency.
Exploring My Possibilities for Transcendence
DIRECTIONS: Let us do some exploration. Fill out the table with the appropriate
responses.
What’s More
If you ever wonder that despite of our limitations, we can able to overcome our
own weaknesses, the answer is, it is because our human nature enables us to
explore
our own limits. It is because of transcendence that we are open with new
opportunities and overcoming own vulnerabilities.
Let us go back to Activity 1. Upon making your reflection I hope you can find
the
connection on the importance of identifying your own traits, accept your
limitations
and open up yourself for a better version of you.
Now, I am challenging you to turn your “I cannot” to “I’m sure, I can”. Copy
the
things that you “cannot do” from activity no. 1. and complete the table.
ACTIVITY 3.
“I am sure, I can!”
What I Have
Learned
Our human nature makes transcendence possible. It
refers to our ability to explore and surpass our limits.
We
are able to transcend our limits through our physical
and
mental abilities. Our ability to transcend drives us to
become better persons and to improve ourselves in
every
way. We can also transcend our own selves when we
govern
ourselves towards what is proper to our nature as a
person.
What I Can Do
DIRECTION: On the space provided, answer the question below.
1. Have you ever encouraged other persons to try and surpass their limits? If so,
relate your experiences. If not, describe how you will try and encourage others
to surpass their limits.
