Tangents and Secants of Circles

1) A tangent line is perpendicular to the radius drawn to the point it touches on the circle. Two segments from the same exterior point that touch a circle are congruent. 2) A common tangent touches two circles in the same plane, while internal tangents intersect the segment joining the circle centers and external tangents do not. 3) A secant line intersects a circle at two points and contains the chord between those points. Angles formed between secants and tangents are related to the arcs intercepted.
