Intro To Solid Geometry

The document defines and provides examples of various 3D solid figures, including cubes, prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres. Cubes have 6 congruent faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices. Prisms have parallel faces of the same shape, like triangular and rectangular prisms. Pyramids have a base and triangular faces meeting at a vertex. Cylinders have two circles and a curved lateral face. Cones have a circular base and a curved pointed face. Spheres have a curved surface where all points are equally distant from the center.

MATHEMATICS 6

SOLID FIGURES
are figures that have three dimensions

such as length, width, and height.

The solid figure on the left has faces or sides

that are polygons. These faces meet at edges,
which are line segments. Each endpoint of an
edge is called a vertex
MATHEMATICS 6

SOLID FIGURES
CUBE
Solid figure with 6
congruent faces.

• 6 faces
• 12 edges
• 8 vertices
MATHEMATICS 6

SOLID FIGURES
PRISM
Solid figures that have
parallel faces that have
the same shape.
These faces of its sides
are parallelograms.

A cube is also a prism.

MATHEMATICS 6

SOLID FIGURES
TRIANGULAR PRISM

• 5 faces
• 9 edges
• 6 vertices
MATHEMATICS 6

SOLID FIGURES
RECTANGULAR PRISM

• 6 faces
• 12 edges
• 8 vertices
SOLID FIGURES
PYRAMID solid figure made up of base and triangular
faces.
• Vertex - where faces meet at a common topmost point and also called the apex of the pyramid.
• Lateral edges - the edges that meet at the vertex

Note! Rectangular prisms and pyramids are also called polyhedrons because each one has
many faces, and every face is a polygon.
SOLID FIGURES
CYLINDER a solid figure that has two circles and a curved lateral
face.
SOLID FIGURES
CONE a solid figure that has a circular flat base and a curved face pointed towards the top.

• Apex - The pointed top end of the cone

SOLID FIGURES
SPHERE solid figure in which all points are of equal distance from a point called its
center and these points form a curved surface as well.
