CHAPTER 1.2
William Wallace
In 1286 King Alexander 3 died with no succesor for the Scottish
thrones, for a period nobles governed the country, but Scotland
need a king they consider the English King Edward and he
says William Wallace.
The Scottish people don't like William Wallace because he was
English but King Edward.

CHAPTER 1.1
History Of Scotland
Scotland is a magnificent country,north of
england,with a population of approximately 5,347,600
people. It's not physical border between Scotland and
England however Scotland is a separate country with
its own identity. How did this happen?
Many years ago the people in Britain live in
tribes.Then around 43 AD, the Romans conquered
the south and middle of the country. They built road
and big towns. They also introduce their culture and
language,Latin.

Chapter 2: Mary, Queen of Scots


In 1542, King James V of Scotland died and his baby daughter, Mary, became Queen. This little queen
was also a rival for the English throne because her grandmother was the sister of King Henry VIII of
England.
At the age of five, Marry’s mother sent her to France to marry Francis, the son pf King Henry II
Mary’s cousin, the protestan Elizabeth I, was the Queen of England
Mary’s second cousin, handsome Lord Darnley, he was arrogant and ambitious and the Scottish nobles
detested him.
Elizabeth was furious but very soon, Mary discovered Darnley’s dark side

CHAPTER 2.1 : Mary, Queen of Scots

En 1568 , Mary escapes to England . Elizabeth believed Mary was still a rival to her throne and
put her in prison for 19 long year !

During this time, there were many conspiracies to kill Elizabeth, mostly by catholics. The Queen
believed Mary was implicated in some of them, but she needed evidence. A trial followed,and the
judges found Mary guilty of treason .After elizabeth death in 1603, Mary ‘s son, King James VI of
Scotland,become King James I of England,too

MUNROS:Is the higher mountain in scotland .in fact that´s

just one 282 separate mountains ,all higher 914 metres

THE BIGGEST LAKES: Is the favourite tourist destination.

because of its monster ,Nessie.

SCOTLAND´S ISLAND:Scotland has got 790 island an

CHAPTER 4

THE FESTIVAL:

A great time to visit Scotland’s capital city , Edinburgh,

is during the three-week festival in August.There are

six different festival at this time:music,opera,theater and dance.

The population of Edinburgh nearly doubles during the festival

The tourists go shopping on the famous Princes Street.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence of the British monarch in


Scotland. King James IV built this palace from 1501 to 1505 because he wanted a
more confortable home than the cold castle.

The beautiful ship was the floathinf home of Queen

Elizabeth II.

This little dog belonged to an Edinburgh policeman called Jhon Gray. John died in
1858 and they buried him in Greyfriar´s Church.

the city made a statue of Bobby near the church and it´s a must-see for tourists!

CHAPTER 5:
Haggis is the national dish of Scotland. It is made with
the heart, liver and lungs of the sheep, mixed with
onion, herbs and salt. It is a tradition on 25th January.

Another typical Scottish dish is a oats. Scottish people


cook the oats and add salt and milk.

There are also very strange foods in the Scottish diet,


like deep-fried Mars Bars. It’s an invention of John
Davie and Brian McDonald. People said that it is
delicious but doctors advice it is very unhealthy

But the favourite of tourists are shortbread. These


cookies are made with butter and sugar. In the Shetland
Islands, it is traditional to break shortbread over a
bride’s head for luck

Chapter 6
Sports
Some people believe the Highland Games originally started in the 11th
century.Today, the Highland Games take place from may to september in many
towns and villages in Scotland. They include athletic events.

The golf started in Scotland. Today the golf is a professional sport with important
international competitions

Chapter 7: SCOTTISH ICONS

kilts: A Kilt is a Scottish traditional clothing which was invented as a solution to be


warm and to keep Highlanders clean from the muddy ground. It has developed and it
has become a symbol of the independence and the rebelition from Scotland against
England.

Tartan:Local plants were used for Highlanders to colour wool, which later will turn
into a material with special design of lines and squares, called Tartan. It has been
used to identify clans, families or regiments, using different types of designs and
colours. People usually buy tartans as a souvenir but they rarely think that it is quite
difficult to make and, therefore, very expensive.

Bagpipes: Bagpipes is Scotland’s national instrument and it was used


by clan leaders to call the clan members. Moreover, bagpipes were
played at important ceremonies, including military ceremonies.
Queen Elizabeth II enjoys bagpipe everyday with her own piper, who
plays it every morning for her.

The thistle:Another icon of Scotland is the thistle, a wild plant that,


according to a legend, helped soldiers to defend themselves against a
Scandinavian army.

MAC/MCMany Scottish surnames start with prefixes “Mac” or “Mc”, which mean
“son of” and it points out the name of their ancestor.

CHAPTER 8: Scottish Traditions - Burns Supper

Burns dinner of scottish traditions Robert Burns (1759-1796) is the national poet of
Scotland.He wrote one of the most famous songs in the world, Auld Lang Syne.

The ceremony the same as Robert Burns. A piper plays the bagpipe when people
arrive. People find their place and then, the cook brings the haggis. The host
recites one or Burn’s poems, Adtess to a hog and cun the haggis. People take a
drink of whiskey and then start eating. After the meal, a speaker talks about burns
and recites more of his poems. Finally, all the people sing Auld Lang Syne ok

Hogmanay

Hogmanay name for New Year’s Eve. Until the 1950s, people in Scotland did not celebrate Christmas with
parties,because strict protestants wanted to mark this important religious way. Therefore, the Scots
celebrate the New Year with hogmanay are the scottish celebrations ECOR, instead of Christmas.

Famous Scottish Writers

-Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832)

Was born in edinburgh. He write many books and his a very populars autor, his
more popular book is IVANHOT. I was gir because he found scottish crownd
jewels in o chest in the castle. Scottish autorities put the jewels in a chest and
forgot it, go walter scott foundid.
CHAPTER 9.2
-Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930)

He was born in Edinburgh. He was a doctor. He was also a writter and his most
famous character is Sherlock Homes.

In Scotland there are famous Scots like Robbie Coltrane, David Tennant, Andy

.-Alexander Grabham Bell was interested in the subject of the science of audition
because both his mother and his wife were deaf.

He started teaching in schools and he made inventions, the telephone and a metal
detector.

.-Sir Alexander was a very messy inventor and doing research in his laboratory
one day he went on vacation and did not mold the material and it was full of mold
but not bacteria which came to the conclusion of the penicillin.

.-James Watt was a mechanical engineer who fixed a steam engine to be more
efficient and that's how it was and that same invention was used for machines

CHAPTER 12.1 SCOTLAND TODAY

After the Second World War, the Scots began to think about their independence.
The government of London for many years refused to discuss the issue of
independence.
In 1999, the Scottish Parliament opened for the
first time since 1707. Today the Scottish deputies
in the Parliament in Edinburg decide on issues
such as agriculture, education and health in
Scotland, but London has the final authority over
Scotland. In the 2015 general election, the
Scottish national party won 56 seats in the British
Parliament.

CHAPTER 12.2 SCOTLAND’S GREEN ENERGY

Scotland is always looking for ways to produce green energy. Three wind turbines
produce more than enough energy for the whole island. The isle of Gigha give
some of it to the rest of Scotland. Hydroelectric dams in the towns of pitlochry and
cruachan also generate electricity for Scotland. Over 40% of Scotland's electricity
comes from renewable sources of energy.

SCOTLAND POPULATION

Scotland is becoming more ethnically diverse people come from different places.
Scotland is looking towards a future with a very different population.
