SCIENCE QUARTER 2-Different Forms of EM Waves

This document discusses different forms of electromagnetic (EM) waves. It defines key terms like wavelength and frequency. There are seven main types of EM waves arranged from longest to shortest wavelength: radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays. Mechanical waves require a medium while EM waves can travel through a vacuum. The document provides examples of the wavelength and frequency ranges for each type of EM wave. It concludes with an assignment to create a color wheel project displaying the EM spectrum.

 ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE (EM WAVE)- or
Electromagnetic radiation is a wave that is created as a
result of VIBRATIONS between an electric field and
magnetic field, hence known as ‘electromagnetic wave.

 There are seven different types of EM waves they are

arrange is a gradual progression from the waves of lowest
frequency to highest frequency this arrangement is called

DEFFINITION OF TERMS
PARTS of a WAVE
 WAVE- It is the disturbance in space
 CREST- It is the highest point in a wave
 TROUGH- It is the lowest point in a wave
 AMPLITUDE- It is the distance from the midpoint to the highest (or lowest) point
of a wave
 WAVELENGHT- It is the distance between two successive identical parts of a wave
 FREQUENCY- It refers to the number of waves produced in one second
 Range- It refers to the extent or the limits between which variation is possible.

example of a
Longitudinal Wave- Longitudinal waves are waves in which the displacement mechanical wave
of the medium is in the same direction as, or the opposite direction to, the
direction of propagation of the wave. (Requires medium to travel)

Transverse wave, in which the displacements of the medium are at right

angles to the direction of propagation.

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES-Electromagnetic waves or EM waves are waves that
are created as a result of vibrations between an electric field and a magnetic
field. In other words, EM waves are composed of oscillating magnetic and
electric fields. (EM Can travel through Vacuum or in a empty space)
