WHAT IS CULTURAL
Cultural Heritage are the: HERITAGE?
• Tangible heritage- may also be movable (paintings,
sculptures, coins, manuscripts), immovable
(monuments and archaeological sites) and underwater
cultural heritage like shipwrecks, underwater ruins
and cities.
• Intangible cultural heritage- are oral traditions,
performing arts, rituals.

RICE TERRACES OF CORDILLERAS
• The "Banaue Rice Terraces", another name for the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras, was
named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 for its cultural importance.
• The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras is an outstanding example of an evolved, living
cultural landscape that can be traced as far back as two millennia ago in the pre-colonial Philippines.
The terraces are in the remote areas of the Philippine Cordillera mountain range on the northern island
of Luzon, Philippine archipelago.
• They are all the product of the Ifugao ethnic group, a minority community that has occupied these
mountains for thousands of years.

• Vigan, which was founded in the sixteenth century, is the best-preserved Asia's version of a planned
Spanish colonial town Its structure reflects the fusion of cultural influences from many parts of the
world. Philippines, with influences from China and Europe, leading to a culture and a townscape that is
unmatched throughout East and South-East Asia.
• Vigan is unique for having preserved much of its Hispanic colonial character, particularly its grid street
pattern and historic urban lay out. Its significance also lies on how the different architectural influences
are blended to create a homogenous townscape.

• Located in the Sulu Sea's geographic center.
• The marine life on the property is extremely diverse.
• There are several important species to be found here, including whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles,
and Napoleon wrasse.
• Nearly 500 kinds of fish and over 350 types of coral are supported by the reef ecosystems. One of
the region's last remaining breeding seabird populations is safeguarded by the reserve.

• It is commonly referred to by tourists as the Underground River. The national park is located within a
cave that you must travel by boat. The cave dome measures at about 300 meters in length wherein it is
filled with river channels, rock formations, and a deep water hole. Aside from being recognized as a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was also named as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2011.
• This park features a spectacular limestone karst landscape with an underground river. One of the river's
distinguishing features is that it emerges directly into the sea, and its lower portion is subject to tidal
influences. The area also represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. The site contains
a full 'mountain-to-sea' ecosystem and has some of the most important forests in Asia.
