INPUT DEVICES
• The hardware components that are used
to enter data and instructions into the
computer are called input devices. In the
old computers punched card readers and
paper tape readers were used as input
devices.
OUTPUT DEVICES
• The computer processes the given data
to produce the output. The devices that
are used to get output from a computer
in readable form are called output
devices.
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
• Central Processing Unit or CPU is the main
component of the computer. It is also called
processor or microprocessor; the CPU is
considered the brain of the computer. It
performs all operations of data according to a
program's instructions. It executes the
program instructions and tells other parts of
the computer what to do. The CPU receives
instructions of program from the main
memory and executes them one by one.
Proper Care of Computers
1. Place the computer in a stable fixture or table. If
it needed to be moved to another location, handle
it properly. If the computer falls off, the case and
its components can be damaged.
2. Keep the computer in a dry place. Place the
computer and power supply away from any kind
of heat element. A computer is an electronic
device. If water or any other liquid gets into it, it
may result to total malfunction Excessive use of
the computer may also cause overheating or
overclocking.
Proper Care of Computers
3. Keep the computer away from strong magnetic
fields such as high-capacity transformers and
electric motors. These can hinder proper
performance of the computer and can damage your
data. Devices such as metal detector, x-ray
machines can harm the computer hard disk, floppy
disk, and other media and storage devices.
4. Shut down the computer properly and do not
forget to save your work. Data in your computer
may be lost in case of power failure. Remember to
save your data periodically.
Proper Care of Computers
5. In case of malfunction, do not disassemble the
computer by yourself.
6. In cleaning, do not apply a disinfectant cleaner
directly to the computer. Use a soft clean cloth to
do it.
7. Do not use a computer when you are near to the
water supply, a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink
or laundry tub, wet places or near a swimming
pool.
Proper Care of Computers
8. Install an antivirus program and keep it up-to-
date. New computer viruses are discovered daily,
and some of them may seriously harm the
computer and cause you to lose data.
9. Be careful when opening electronic mails (e-mails)
from sources not known unto you. Computer
viruses are often triggered from within e-mail
attachments so be cautious when opening any
attached file.
