ARTS AND CULTURES

Along with pristine natural beauty, Himachal Pradesh has various art and craft forms that
reflect its rich culture. Quite vivid and diversified, the art and craft of Himachal Pradesh
are impressive which can be best witnessed in paintings, handloom products, woodwork
and metal products.

Renowned as Pahari painting, the art has received praise from both domestic as well as
international tourist.
These paintings strongly depict the lives of Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha. Apart
from holding a spiritual significance, the paintings also reflect the unique flora and fauna
of the state.

The tourism destination in India is strongly influenced Tibetan style when it comes to the
handloom products of Himachal Pradesh which includes carpets, bed sheets, blankets,
shawls, and other woollen garments.
Also, when on a trip to Himachal Pradesh, one cannot miss out on the Himachali caps
that are the famous artwork of the people. These products can be best purchased from the
Tibetan markets of Manali, Shimla, Dharamshala and McLeodganj. Adding to this, the
Chamba rumal (handkerchief) is an interesting part of the craft of Himachal Pradesh. The
handkerchiefs are beautifully designed with silk and muslin

FLOCK DANCES

Himachal is called Dev Bhoomi as there is local diety that is


looking over its patrons.
In himachal Pradesh there are dances most performed at the local
affairs.

Nati is one of the most prominent dances of Himachal Pradesh


which is enthusiastically performed in different forms throughout
the state such as the Shimla Nati, Kullu Nati, Shiv Badar Nati,
Sirmauri Nati, to name a few.

Nati is a dance of celebration, whether it be the new harvest


season or a marriage in the family. Both men and women take
part in this dance dressed in colorful attire.
Also known as Chhambha or the Rakhshasa
Dance, the Demon Dance is another form of
traditional dance in Himachal Pradesh that
reflects its beautiful culture and simple lifestyle.
It has a history dating back to thousands of years
and is said to have originated in the Kinnaur
region of the state.
It is performed by men and women wearing
demon masks while holding each other's hands.
The dance group is guided by a leader called
Ghure.
The Demon Dance generally represents the
situation of demons attacking crops and crops
being guarded by gods.

The top feature of this region is the popular tribes of Himachal Pradesh
Kinnar is a combination of Sanskrit word taken from legends of a
mythical being who posses a human figure. It is the district of Himachal
Pradesh.

Lahauli tribe comes from lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh.Their


livelihood depends on agriculture,herding,weaving crafts.
Food items
Dham is an exceptional thali style food and a favourite of every
tourist who visits Himachal. The dish in the thali includes rajma,
dal, curd, rice, sour sauce and sweet.

It guarantees great taste and the highlight of the dish is that it is


prepared by special chefs. Hands down, savouring this palatable
thali is one of the best things to do in Himachal Pradesh.

Madra is originally a delicacy that belongs to the Chamba district of Himachal


Pradesh. The dish mainly consists of the soaked chickpeas (chana).

Cooked well in the oil and various spices such as cloves, cinnamon, cardamoms,
cumin, coriander powder and turmeric powder enhance the taste of this dish. Madra
is one of the dishes that represents the food culture of Himachal Pradesh. 
Dhaam
Dhaam is a complete food that along with a great taste promises a healthy dose of
nutrients.

The dish includes dal, rajma, rice, curd, boor ki Kadi and is very well complemented
with gur (jaggery). Dhaam is a plate full of delicious delicacies that are a must-serve
on the occasions and festivals.
The distinctive feature about this dish is that it is prepared by special chefs known as
‘botis’
