It is a vast expanse of space.


It contains various heavenly bodies like
stars, planets and moons. It also
contains dust, gases and pieces of rock.

Can you imagine the size of our earth?
The Earth is like a grain of salt in this
vast universe.
Have you ever looked at the night sky?

What do you see in the night sky?


 The Moon
 The Stars
 The Planets
STARS 1. The twinkling lights are
stars.

2. It gives out heat and light.

3. There are million and


millions of stars.

4. These are very far away


from us so they look so
small.
Observe this picture of the night sky carefully .
Some groups of stars
appear to make
patterns in the sky.
These groups of stars
are called
constellations.
These are named after creatures and
persons from myths or legends.
Ex. Leo, Ursa Major (The great bear- Saptarishi)
