of beneficial and harmful
interactions among living
things.

D
__________1. It can cause food and water shortage due to
long period of dryness.

LET’S EXPLORE! Study the given picture then answer the questions.
Activity 1 Questions:
1. What does the butterfly do
with the flowers?
2. What will stick on the feet of
the butterfly while flying from
one flower to another?
3. What butterfly is important to
the flowers?
4. How do they benefit from each
other?
LET’S EXPLORE! Study the given picture then answer the questions.
Activity 2 Questions:
1. What does the tick get from
the dog?
2. What is the effect of the tick
bite to the dog?
3. Who is harmed between the
two organisms?
4. Who gets benefit from the
relationship?
Symbiotic relationship
Symbiosis is a close ecological relationship
between the individuals of two or more different
species. It may benefits to both species or one
specie.
Types of Symbiotic Relationships
1. Mutualism- the type of interaction where both species benefit from the
relationship.
Example: Bees sipping the nectar of a Gumamela flower
2. Commensalism- is the type of interaction where one organism benefits
while the other is not harmed nor affected.
Example: Ferns growing on a branch of a tree
3. Predation or predator-prey relationship- is the type of interaction where
one is benefited while the other one is harmed or badly affected.
Predator- who eats the prey
Prey- who is being eaten by predator
Example: Frog eating insects
Types of Symbiotic Relationships
4. Parasitism - The organism that usually benefit from this interaction is
called the parasite and the one that is affected is called the host.
Example: Lice on the head of a girl
5. Competition- is a relationship between organisms that strive for the
same resources in the same place.
Example: Six seedlings planted on a small pot
•Living things constantly interact
with their environment that enables
them to live in units called
ecosystem. It is the interactions
among biotic (living things) and
non-biotic (non-living things) factors
in an environment.
Types of Interaction Among Organisms
• Organism interact with one another for food,
protection, and shelter.
• Mutualism, commensalism, parasitism, predation, and
competition are the different interactions among
organisms.
• Interactions among organisms may result to beneficial
or harmful effects.
