Importance of Earth's Subsystems

The document discusses Earth's four major subsystems: lithosphere (land), hydrosphere (water), biosphere (living things), and atmosphere (air). It provides details on the importance of each subsystem. The lithosphere provides nutrients for plant growth and materials for industry. The atmosphere protects from radiation and regulates temperature. The hydrosphere is essential for life and the water cycle. The biosphere is where life exists on Earth and provides the environmental conditions to support biodiversity.

Earth's Subsystems and

its Importances
What are the earth's
subsystems ?
Everything in Earth's system can be placed into one of
four major subsystems: land, water, living things, or
air. These four subsystems are called "spheres."
Specifically, they are the "lithosphere" (land),
"hydrosphere" (water), "biosphere" (living things),
and "atmosphere" (air).
GEOSPHERE ( LITHOSPHERE )

The lithosphere is the solid, outer part of Earth. The

lithosphere includes the brittle upper portion of the
mantle and the crust, the outermost layers of Earth's
structure. It is bounded by the atmosphere above and
the asthenosphere.
THE IMPORTANCE OF
LITHOSPHERE

-The lithosphere helps to provide all the necessary nutrients

required for the growth of plants.
-We need fuels such as coal, petroleum, gas, etc., for the industries,
household purposes and also for the automobiles.
-The alteration of the tectonic plates gives rise to mountains,
earthquakes, etc.
-The lithosphere provides the space for the shelter of all the animals
as well as for the human beings.
ATMOSPHERE
The atmosphere protects Earth from harmful solar
radiation and regulates heating provided by the Sun.
In this blog, let us learn about the importance of
atmosphere.
Importance of
Atmosphere
The first function is made possible by ozone
existing in the stratosphere, the second
function is achieved by a mix of gases existing
in the whole atmosphere called “greenhouse
gases”.
Importance of Atmosphere

Not only does it contain the oxygen we need to live, but it also
protects us from harmful ultraviolet solar radiation. It creates
the pressure without which liquid water couldn't exist on our
planet's surface. And it warms our planet and keeps
temperatures habitable for our living Earth.
Hydrosphere

- The Hydrosphere is all the bodies of water on

Earth. A hydrosphere is the total amount of water
on a planet that includes water that is on the
surface of the planet, underground, and in the air.

All the waters on the earth’s surface, such as lakes

and seas, and sometimes including water over the
earth's surface, such as clouds is included in the
hydrosphere. run-off.
The water vapor in the air counts too.
A planet’s hydrosphere can be liquid, vapor, or ice.

Cyrosphere – the frozen part of the Hydrosphere.

Water is the most abundant substance at the surface of Earth. Approximately,

71% of earth that is surrounded by water.

The existence of hydrosphere depends on an important phenomenon called

the water cycle or the hydrological cycle.
• WATER CYCLE – Water collects in clouds, then falls to Earth in the
form of rain or snow. This water collects in rivers, lakes and oceans.
Then it evaporates into the atmosphere to start the cycle all over
again.

• FOUR STEPS IN THE WATER CYCLE : evaporation, condensation,

precipitation and surface run-off.
IMPORTANCE OF
HYDROSPHERE
As we all know, the survival of living organisms without water is
impossible. Life on the earth entirely depends upon water. Hence
earth is known as a water planet. Hydrosphere plays a vital role
in our daily life.
A few importance of hydrosphere are as follows :

1. One of the basic needs of humans

2. Part of a Living Cell
3. Habitat for many Organisms
4. Regulates temerature
5. Atmosphere Existence
BIOSPHERE
The biosphere is made up of the parts of Earth where
life exists. The biosphere extends from the deepest root
systems of trees, to the dark environment of ocean
trenches, to lush rainforests and high mountaintops.
Scientists describe Earth in terms of spheres.
THE BIOSPHERE IS THE PART OF THE EARTH AND
ITS ATMOSPHERE IN WHICH LIFE CAN EXIST.
Why is the Biosphere
is so important?
The biosphere provides the necessary environmental conditions
for survival. Living organisms are required to adapt to the
environment of the biosphere. The biosphere
is home to biodiversity within ecosystems
while providing a reliable source
of food on Earth.
What are the 3 things make life possible in the
biosphere?

Earth is a habitable planet for

the following reasons:
< It is at a perfect distance
from the Sun.
<It has a combination of
hydrosphere,
atmosphere, and lithosphere
that allows life to exist in the
biosphere.
What is the most important part of the
biosphere?
The Hydrosphere, hydrosphere is the aquatic part
of the biosphere. This includes oceans, rivers, lakes
and other bodies of water. Unlike the lithosphere
Hajajja

and the atmosphere, every portion of the

hydrosphere supports life. Specially-adapted
bacteria grow in hot springs, tube worms form the
basis of sulfur-based communities around deep-
sea, hydrothermal vents, and in more hospitable
regions, life abounds.
