Lecture Two - Introduction To SAD

System analysis and design (SAD) is a process used to create and maintain information systems to help employees perform business tasks more easily. SAD involves analyzing organizational systems, designing software applications to support specific functions, and developing strategies to implement and maintain systems over time. Key roles of a systems analyst include planning solutions by gathering user needs, analyzing data to define problems and possible solutions, designing system requirements, implementing and testing systems, and maintaining systems as business needs change.

Basic concepts of analysis and design
• Systems Analysis – the process of understanding and specifying
in detail what the information system should accomplish.
• Systems Design – the process of specifying in detail how the
many components of the information system should be
physically implemented.
• Systems Analyst – a business professional who uses analysis
and design techniques to solve business problems by using
information technology.
Systems Analysis and Design (SAD)
Information systems analysis and design is a method
used by companies to create and maintain information
systems that perform basic business functions.

The main goal of SAD is to improve organizational

systems through developing or acquiring application
software that can help employees accomplish key business
tasks more easily and efficiently.
Systems Analysis and Design (SAD)
An application software is designed to support a
specific organizational function or process, such as
inventory management, payroll. The goal of application
software is to turn data into information.

Systems are created to solve problems. One can think of

the systems approach as an organized way of dealing with
a problem. In this dynamic world, The subject System
Analysis and Design, mainly deals with the software
development activities.
Roles of a System Analyst.
•Planning.
•Analysis.
•Design.
•Implementation.
•Maintenance.
Roles of a System Analyst.

Planning.
First of all the system analyst gathers data ,
facts, and opinions of the users and also
consults with other users ,managers and data
professionals to plan a solution to culture the
needs of the user.
Roles of a System Analyst.

Analysis.
After gathering the data required for defining a
problem the system analyst analyses the data
to reach to a solution he may take the help of
other people and listen to their ideas and
refines them until a workable solution is
achieved.
Roles of a System Analyst.

Design.
After choosing the best alternative
and specifying all the requirements,
the system analyst must work on
designing the system so that
management goals could be achieved.
Roles of a System Analyst.

Implementation.
After designing the system the analyst
must test the system and put it into a
working state .
That’s what implementation is.
It also helps in knowing the proper
functioning of the system.
Roles of a System Analyst.
Maintenance.
It focuses on the people and management
issues surrounding the system installation.
As the future is uncertain and the system is
bound to change a system analyst has to
develop strategies to overcome resistance to
change.
