Architecture of Embedded System of A Washing Machine Control

The document summarizes the architecture of a washing machine controller. It describes a washing machine as an embedded system that takes user inputs like wash cycles and cloth type and washes and dries clothes accordingly. The major components of a washing machine controller include an input unit, control unit, output unit, program control, sensors, analog to digital converter, digital to analog converter, and mechanical switches to control the motor and water flow.

Architecture

of Washing
Machine
Controller
One definition of an embedded system is a
system that includes both hardware and
software to perform a predetermined
function. A washing machine is a
commonplace appliance that serves as a
good example of an embedded system.
It takes user inputs such as wash cycle,
kind of clothes, extra soaking and rinsing,
spin revolution per minute, and others,
then washes and dries clothes as
instructed. Unless new instructions are
given for the following wash, the machine
repeats the previous set of duties.
MAJOR COMPONENTS OF WASHING MACHINE

INPUT is something
introduced into a system or CONTROL UNIT
used to produce output. is an embedded
processor unit that
controls program flow.

OUTPUT is the information

produced from an input.
PROGRAM CONTROL
is how a program makes
decisions or organizes its activities.
To perform its task, the washing machine
requires to have a cold-water connection to
be plugged into the socket. It also has
sensors that signal the operating system to
start and function.
An Analog to Digital Converter (ADC)
converts an analog signal into digital form.
A Digital to Analog Converter (DAC)
converts a digital input signal into an analog
output signal.
A purely mechanical switch controls the
timing and direction of the motor. Also, it
controls the outflow of water.
