Lesson 1c - Factoring The Sum and Difference of Two Cubes

The document provides instructions on how to factor the sum and difference of two cubes. It explains that to factor expressions of the form (term)3 + (term)3 or (term)3 - (term)3, one takes the cube root of each term and uses it to write the expression as a product of binomials multiplied by a third term. Specifically, it outlines the following steps: 1) Find the greatest common factor, 2) Take the cube root of each term, 3) Square the first term of each binomial and take the product of the terms as the second term, 4) Square the last term. Several examples are worked out demonstrating this process.

To factor the Sum and Difference of Two Cubes:
1. Get the greatest common factor first if there is
any
2. Get the cube root of both terms following the sign
in the middle to get the binomial factor
3. To get the trinomial factor:
a. Square the first term of the binomial factor.
b. Get the product of both terms of the first factor
affixing the sign opposite the sign in between.

c. Square the last term.

two cubes using the
pattern you have
learned.
