Medical professionalism is a core element of being a good doctor.

Good medical practice is based on a relationship of trust between the


profession and society, in which doctors are expected to meet the highest
standards of professional practice and behaviour.

It involves a partnership between patient and doctor that is based on mutual


respect, confidentiality, honesty, responsibility and accountability.

What is professional competence?

The habitual and judicious use of communication, knowledge,


technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotions, values, and
reflection in daily practice for the benefit of the individual and
community being served. Competence builds on a foundation
of basic clinical skills, scientific knowledge, and moral
development

• COMPETENCE (n) : the quality of being adequately


well qualified physically and intelectaully
• COMEPETENCIES (n) : represents the cluster of skills,
abilities and knowledge to perform jobs
