Bandra Worli Sea Link: Mumbai'S Link To Future

The Bandra Worli Sea Link is a major cable-stayed bridge that connects the cities of Bandra and Worli in Mumbai, India. It spans over the Mahim Bay and Arabian Sea. The 5.6 km long bridge features a 850m central section supported by large towers. It was built to reduce traffic congestion and reduce travel time between Western suburbs and South Mumbai. Over 120,000 vehicles now use the bridge daily. Its construction involved innovative techniques like pre-casting concrete segments weighing over 120 tons and installing them using large floating cranes.

CABLE STAYED BRIDGE
WHAT IS CABLE STAYED BRIDGE ???????

A TYPICAL CABLE STAYED BRIDGE IS A

CONTINUOUS GIRDER WITH ONE OR MORE TOWER
ERRECTED ABOVE PIERS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SPAN.FROM
THESE TOWERS CABLES STRETCH DOWN DIAGONALLY AND
SUPPORT THE GIRDER.
HOW IT WORKS??

• HAND AND HEAD

CONCEPT
• CABLE STAYED BRIDGE BUILT BY BALANCED CANTILEVER METHOD.

The erection proceeds from either side of the pylon in the form
of two cantilever which balance each other. This is the latest
and the most commonly used. The main advantage is that the
traffic below the bridge is not hindered during erection.
