CONCEPTS OF MULTIPLICATION

GRADE 2
STEVEN P. OMBEGA
BEEd 4A
PRAYER
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:
1.Understand the concept of multiplication,
2.Identify the parts of multiplication,
3.Illustrate a multiplication as repeated addition, and
4.Write an addition equation for a given picture.
THE MAGIC OF A SQUARE

2 2 4
3 3 9
6 6 12
STEPS TO FOLLOW

Multiply the two numbers in each

row.
Multiply the two numbers in each
column.
Multiply the two numbers in the
last row.
Chenitz has 4 baskets with 7 mangoes each.
How many mangoes are there in all?
What are the given?
4 baskets and 7 mangoes.
What is being asked?
How many mangoes are there in
all?
What operation to be used?
Multiplication
What is the mathematical sentence?
4x7=N
What is the answer?
28 mangoes
4 multiplicand
factors
X 7 multiplier

28 product
REMEMBER
Multiplicand – the number to be multiplied by another
number.
Multiplier – the number that tells how many times the
multiplicands has to be multiplied.
Product – the answer in multiplication.
Factors – the two numbers that we multiply.
7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 28
4 X 7 = 28
Repeated addition – the addends are being
repeated.

What is repeated addition?

The boy scouts are having a drill in the quadrangle.
The boy scouts are divided into groups. They have
their own patrol leader. How many boy scouts are
there in all?
How many groups of boy scouts
are there?
There are 3 groups.
How many boy scouts are there in
each group?
3 boy scouts in each group.
What is the repeated addition and
multiplication sentence of the given
problem?
3+3+3=9
3x3=9
How many boy scouts are there in
all?
There are 9 boy scouts.
ANOTHER EXAMPLE

Write the repeated addition of the following.

3x2=6
2+2+2=6
2x4=8
4+4=8
5 x 2 = 10
2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10
ANOTHER EXAMPLE

Write the multiplication of the following.

3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12 4 x 3 = 12
5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 25 5 x 5 = 25
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 18 6 x 3 = 18
MATCH IT TO THE CORRESPONDING
NUMBER SENTENCE.
LET’S CHECK YOUR
ANSWER.
WRITE THE REPEATED ADDITION AND
MULTIPLICATION SENTENCE FOR EACH
PICTURE.

4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 24 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12
6 x 4 = 24 4 x 3 = 12
2+2+2+2+2+2 1+1=2 3+3+3=9
+ 2 + 2 = 16
2x1=2 3x3=9
8 x 2 = 16
ANSWER THE FOLLOWING.

1.What do you call the number to be multiplied by

another number?
2.What do you call the number that tells how many
times the multiplicand has to be multiplied?
3.What do you call the answer in multiplication?
4.What do you call the two numbers that we multiply?
