Fitted teaching

methodologies for
different students
MARCH 21, 2022 VIA ZOOM
Objectives
• Define "teaching methodology".
• Discuss the parameters on teaching
methodologies.
• Recognize the different methods of
teaching
Teaching
Methodology

Teaching methodology refers to management,

pedagogy and principles of classroom
instruction ( Teach.com, 2020)
Teaching
Methodology

It includes the strategy or design that fits your

philosophy, subject area/s, learner demographics,
and even the school management rules and
regulations.
Teaching
Methodology

Teaching methods also introduce designs that

pertains on the subject matter and how will the
learner learn the topic or skill.

TEACHING METHODS

Low-Tech, Low-Tech,
Teacher Centered Student Centered
Teacher Centered Approach
It is the traditional approach in
delivering lessons to learners.

Teacher is the "center" of knowledge

and in charge of learning.
Learner Centered Approach
It engages students in different tasks
of learning.

It motivates and empowers students by giving

them some control over learning process.

Engaging students in doing collaboration and acknowledging

the classroom as a source of learning.
HIGH TECH APPROACH
Utilizing different technology to aid
students in their learning.
Examples:
• Google Suite ( Classroom, Meet, Gmail, Docs, Drive)
• Microsoft Teams / Zoom Teleconference
• Mentimeter, Pear Deck, Classpoint, Canva
• Moodle, Edmodo etc.
LOW-TECH APPROACH
Traditional and need a physical
presence, interaction with the teacher
and learner.

OF INSTRUCTION

Direct Instruction

DIRECT INSTRUCTION

According to Teach.com,
Direct instruction is the general term that refers to the
traditional teaching strategy that relies on explicit teaching
through lectures and teacher-led demonstrations.

1. Formal Authority
2. Expert
3. Personal Model
It is considered as "Low-tech Teacher Centered".
FLIPPED CLASSROOM

The flipped classroom is a teaching method in which

direct instruction shifts from the group learning space to
the individual learning space and the resulting group
space is transformed into an interactive learning
outcome where the educator facilitates students as they
apply what they learned during the lecture.
(The Flipped Learning Network, 2014).
FLIPPED CLASSROOM
Kinesthetic Learning
Kinesthetic learning is based on the idea of
multiple intelligences requiring students to do,
make, or create. In a kinesthetic learning
environment, students perform physical activities
rather than listen to lectures or watch
demonstrations.

INSTRUCTION

• Differentiated Instruction
• Inquiry-based Learning
• Game-based Learning
Differentiated Instruction
Differentiated instruction is a
teaching approach that tailors
instruction to all students’ learning
needs. All the students have the
same learning goal. But the
instruction varies based on students’
interests, preferences, strengths, and
struggles.
Differentiated Instruction

According to Carol Ann

Tomlinson, Students have
“multiple options for taking
in information, making sense
of ideas, and expressing
what they learn,”
What is differentiated instruction? (2019, August 5). Understood - For learning and thinking differences.

Differentiated Instruction
According to Tomlinson, there are 4 areas where
educators can differentiate their instruction:

• Content: Determining out what a student needs to

learn and which resources will help
• Process: Activities that help students make sense
of what they learn
• Projects: Ways for students to “show what they
know”
• Learning environment: How the classroom “feels”
and how the class works together

Examples of Differentiated Instruction
Strategies:

• Learning Stations
• Task Card
• Think-Pair-Share
• Sensory Activities
Inquiry-based Learning
Inquiry-based learning is a
teaching method that turns a
teacher as a facilitator who
provides guidance and support to
learners throughout their learning
process, rather than a sole
authority figure.
Inquiry-based Learning
In Inquiry-based Learning, there
are 3 roles a teacher might play:

1.Facilitator
De-emphasis on teacher instruction and
both student and educator undergo the
learning process together.
Inquiry-based Learning
In Inquiry-based Learning, there
are 3 roles a teacher might play:

2. Personal Model
Teacher is leading by example through
demonstration, students learn through
observing and copying the process.
Inquiry-based Learning
In Inquiry-based Learning, there
are 3 roles a teacher might play:

3. Delegator
Teachers act as a resource person to
students, guiding the students to their
progress on learning.
Inquiry-based Learning

Inquiry-based learning can make great use of

technology through online research sites, social
media, and the possibility for global
connections with people outside of the
community.

As teachers, we should encourage our students

to ask questions, let them answer them, guide
them to find the right information, and explain
the concepts they understand.
GAME-BASED LEARNING
Game based learning describes an
approach to teaching, where students
explore relevant aspect of games in a
learning context designed by teachers.
GAME-BASED LEARNING
GBL usually includes a game-like
environment and practice of the learning
content through activities like theatre and
role play.
