INTRODUCTION
WCPT founded in 1951 is international voice
for physical therapy through its 11 founding
member organizations.
It is a non-profit organisation, registered as a
charity in the uk.
• Founded in 1951 in Copenhagen, Denmark,
with 11 founding member organizations
from
Canada
South Africa Sweden
• Denmark New Zealand
• Great Britain Norway
Finland United States of America
West Germany Australia
It also has links with voluntary international
bodies like:

OBJECTIVES
Ø Advancing physical therapy profession &
improve global health through:
• Encouraging high standards of
physical therapy research,
education and practice
• Collaborating with national and
international organizations
•
• Supporting the exchange of
information between WCPT
regions and member organizations
WCPT MEMBERSHIP
Ø Criteria's:
• Majority of the governing body
must be qualified physiotherapists
• Should have majority of qualified
physiotherapists
• Should be open to all qualified
physiotherapists across the country
• If more than one organization of the same
country has registered,organisation with
highest number of physical therapists in the
country will be eligible for membership.
• Member organization has to abide with the
codes of ethics of WCPT.

• The Executive Committee meets at least once

AIMS

OBJECTIVES
• To establish different categories of members
of IAP
• To maintain registers of different categories of
IAP members
• To conduct seminars, meetings, workshops,
camps & lectures & to publish journals,
literatures and newsletters time to time.
• To ensure high standards of professional
practice by the members
• Organise continuous physiotherapy education
programs
• Advancement of higher physiotherapy
education (post graduate courses)

• Promote scientific research and technology in
physiotherapy
• To watch and advice governmental and non
governmental organisations on policy
matters affecting physiotherapy practice and
development.
• To award scholarships, prizes, free ships,
travel grants and monetary facilities to the
students
• To issue registration certificates of IAP
membership to its life members

CESSATION OF MEMBERSHIP
• Resignation by written notice to the secretary.
• Dies or becomes lunatic, or of unsound mind
or otherwise becomes incapable of acting as
a member.
• is adjusted insolvent or convicted of an
offence involving mortal turpitude.
• Fails to pay any arrears of subscription for a
period of more than 24 months.
• is disqualified from membership by the
General Body of I.A.P.
CENTRAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
The Central Executive Council shall
consist of 9 elected and 2 ex-officio members.
• Election of the CEC: Every 3 year through
postal ballot by active members.

ETHICAL RULES OF
IAP
• Provide honest quality care
• Administer treatment in the interest of the
patient with sound judgement of the
treatment
• Respect the dignity and rights of the patients
and professional colleagues
• Refer the patient to the appropriate speciality
if need be.
• Shall maintain the confidentiality of the patient
and patients disease.
• Keep updated with recent advances in the
field.
• Treatment with prior consent of the patient/
relative
•
• Shall not solicit patient through fee splitting
• Provide necessary information to the patient or
the next relative if required regarding the
disease and its management.

• Maintain dignity & honor of the profession
•
• Contribute in community health needs
• Maintain high standards of professional
conduct
•
• Balance the wants,needs and requirements of
the patients programme,for long term well
being of the patient
•
• Resist pressures to use their influence
inappropriately
•
• Seek appropriate guidance and directions
when faced with ethical dilemmas
•
• Offer services to the individuals and
organisations with a legitimate claim on
these services.
