HOW DOES A CAREER BUILDER THINK ?

• Who is ur career builder ?

Modern career advice techniques recommend you to see yourself as a career builder.
• Because you ur self are a career builder, you will consider any small career decision in
the light of your long term career goals. Further career training for the improvement of
specific skills, as well as further career education (Master’s programs, etc.) will be
considered and decided according to the full career plan. At this stage u need to
compromise.
• Career Break are strategically planned career education actions which are intended to
produce career improvement in the future. This will allow him or her to study or travel
and, more importantly, to think. Career builders do not mistake a career break for a long
holiday period without responsibilities or goals to accomplish.
• In fact, most career breaks are strategically planned career education actions
which are intended to produce career improvement in the future
SOME PRACTICAL TIPS FOR CAREER BUILDING

• Always have an up to date copy of your CV: It’s easier to keep your CV current if you
add new skills, projects and achievements to it as you go along. This is a good starting
point for your career planning as it helps you to review your career path.
• Gather evidence of your achievements.
• Think about what motivates and demotivates you: What you like and dislike doing.
Try to analyze your strengths and weaknesses, in terms of your skills, qualities and
experience –be as objective as possible, and base this on third party feedback where
you can. Write all this down, and review it periodically– your motivation and strengths
and weaknesses can change, particularly if you are aware of them .
• Set yourself objectives: relation to what you want to achieve, and make sure these are
SMART.
CAREER BUILDER TYPES

• Obsessive career builder: These are people who won’t make any move without
considering how it will look in their future CVs, Often, this even affects their personal
lives to. This can become a psychological condition, and most career advisors or career
counsel experts will certainly show concern about over awareness, as it may transform
into obsession. In fact, most career obsessed persons end up not accomplishing their
career goals.
• Careless career builder: These people, on the contrary, do have a more or less clear
picture of their future career purpose, but they cannot make the connection with their
day-to day activity. They suffer from a chronic lack of long-term career inputs in their
ordinary life and work, and this may lead to fatal decisions being taken. This often
happens either because of a certain intellectual laziness or because these people can’t
just sit back from time to time and take perspective. They are so immersed in the course
of events that they fail to connect their current efforts to the big objectives, even if they
have planned them.
• Doubtful or reluctant career builder. He or she has clear objectives and wishes to
accomplish them, but it’s just so hard for them to know whether they are actually on the
good way or not... They more than anyone else need a career advisor or a career coach.
Excessive doubting may frustrate their career approach and their attitude to their current
job, so a career coach will start by conducting a thorough assessment of these persons’
previous career decisions. These are clear candidates to a sabbatic year or career break
in order to sort out their priorities and rethink the whole big picture. Being ambitious and
hard-working, they may be able to afford a complete career change, even at an already
mature age
• Non economic career builder. We all need two main revenues from our ordinary
activity. One is money to spend, and the other is acknowledgement and respect. Well,
some people are so much interested in the second that they will not plan their careers
according to their financial needs. Glory is more important, no matter if they call it
otherwise. Many writers, political and social activists, artists and others fall into this
category. It’s fair enough if you have enough personal resources to fund your beloved
non profit activity, but otherwise it’s a sure way to failure from the career perspective.
• Moderate career builder. This is the category most of us would like to fall in, and
the one most career advisors will try to bring you to. These people do not get
obsessed or over conscious about their long term career objectives, but from time
to time they reconsider everything. They take some time to look back and then to
imagine ahead. They take advice if needed. They make small changes to the big
picture but they keep advancing towards its accomplishment. They won’t hesitate
to make an important career change if they feel they are getting away from the
long-term objectives, but they won’t change jobs or industries just out of
temporary unhappiness. Although this group may seem to be in no need for a
career advisor, these are the people who are less reluctant to visit a career coach
CAREER BUILDER TOOLS & ATTITUDES

• IT: Information and communication are the key to the future.

• Change-friendliness. Be ready for change. Accept it and learn to like it. No matter
how young or old you are, inertia is one of the temptations we must constantly (and
efficiently) avoid if we want to keep pace with modernity.
• Originality. Without exaggerating, you can be the one who provides an original
focus on the problems, the one who sits back and considers the whole matter from a
more global perspective.
• Higher focus. All other people focus on their own work and how to do it OK. Well,
be the one who sees further and considers not only his or her own activity but the
whole department, show your employer that you have a natural talent to put yourself
in his place and solve his problems .
• Loyalty. Show it upwards but, more importantly, also towards your equals and
the people reporting to you. Most humans are loyalty-reflecting and if they
perceive a positive attitude from you, an attitude that defends them, they will give
you the same, even unconsciously.
• Market awareness. You are a piece of a market-oriented organization, so, no
matter what your job is, you need to consider the market as much as the
marketing manager in your company. In fact, market awareness is at the core of
career building because, remember, your ultimate boss is not your boss or the
company’s general manager: it’s the customer
 GOOD CAREER BUILDER HABITS

Whether it's for New Year or any other time of year, it takes discipline to improve
your career builder habits. Many people realize that new habits like attending
more networking events or taking on special projects at work could help them get
ahead in their careers.
• These are some of the most important career builder habits
1. WRITE YOUR GOALS DOWN
2. TAKE ACTION
3. SET DEADLINES
4. REWARD YOURSELF
BAD CAREER BUILDER HABITS

• Lack of enthusiasm

• Wishy-Washy Goals and No Plan

• Poor Self-Marketing

• Trying to Do It All Alone

• Giving in to Fear of Failure

When considering your career options and discussing with your career coach or career advisor,
this five bad habits need to be reviewed and, if you feel you have indulged into one or more of
them, your career expert will help you to fight them in the future
CAREER BUILDER EXPECTATIONS

• Social status.
• Professional reputation.
