Tracing The Location of A Typhoon

Here are the key points I learned from tracing the path of typhoon Sendong: - Tropical cyclones commonly form over warm ocean waters where they gain energy. They then move westward across the Philippine Sea towards landmasses like the Philippines. - When typhoons make landfall, they begin to weaken and die out since they lose the warm ocean waters that fuel the storms. - The Philippines' location near the equator and proximity to warm western Pacific oceans make it highly prone to typhoons. The warm waters provide the fuel for typhoon development. - By plotting the latitude and longitude coordinates of Sendong over time on a map, we can see its westward path as it moved across the Philippine

Trace the path of typhoon that
enters the Philippine Area of
Responsibility (PAR) using the
map and tracking data
OBJECTIVES:
Trace the path of typhoons that enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) using a
map and tracking data (S8ES-Iif-21), specifically;
1. Identify if a tropical cyclone has entered the PAR given its latitude and longitude;
2. Explain what is meant when a typhoon has entered PAR; and
3. Explain why PAGASA regularly monitors when a tropical cyclone is within PAR.

 Delivering accurate cyclone forecasts in time is the key importance when it comes to saving human
lives and reducing economic loss.
 Meteorologist must al least know something about the existing weather condition over a large area
before he can make a reliable forecast.
 Basic tool: WEATHER MAP (depicts the distribution patterns of atmospheric pressure, wind,
temperature and humidity at different levels of the atmosphere)
 Weather map is also used to monitor the movement of a weather disturbance in a certain location.
 That’s why in weather forecasting and monitoring, tracing the pathway taken by a typhoon is
equally relevant.
 To trace typhoon’s path, we use Coordinate system, a mathematical system that uses one or more
numbers to uniquely determine the position of points in a space.

 Based on the given maps, all of them struck the northern part of the
Philippines.
 Three of tropical cyclones mentioned weakened and died out near land.
 That means, when tropical cyclones reach land (landfall), they die out
because they are cut off from the warm ocean waters that keep them going.
 Philippines is vulnerable to typhoons due to its position near the equator (30
degrees North) and some parts of the island is surrounded oceans that
becomes hotter during summertime.
 Since typhoons depend on a heat engine process that requires warm water,
these oceans provide the fuel necessary for typhoon development.

GENERALIZATIONS:
 Delivering accurate cyclone forecasts in time saves human lives and reduce economic loss.
 Tracing the path taken by a typhoon which enters PAR is a relevant portion in cyclone
forecasting and monitoring.
 Latitude and longitude data (or coordinates) are needed in tracking typhoon’s path.
 Typhoon seen outside PAR has international name but once it enters PAR, PAGASA give its
local name as a sign of its activity within PAR.
 Typhoons entering the country are formed in the ocean and dissipates through land.
 Philippines is vulnerable to typhoons due to our position near the equator and surrounded by
waters where temperature sometimes exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Since typhoons depend
on heat engine process requiring warm waters.
