Trace the path of typhoon that
enters the Philippine Area of
Responsibility (PAR) using the
map and tracking data
OBJECTIVES:
Trace the path of typhoons that enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) using a
map and tracking data (S8ES-Iif-21), specifically;
1. Identify if a tropical cyclone has entered the PAR given its latitude and longitude;
2. Explain what is meant when a typhoon has entered PAR; and
3. Explain why PAGASA regularly monitors when a tropical cyclone is within PAR.

Delivering accurate cyclone forecasts in time is the key importance when it comes to saving human
lives and reducing economic loss.
Meteorologist must al least know something about the existing weather condition over a large area
before he can make a reliable forecast.
Basic tool: WEATHER MAP (depicts the distribution patterns of atmospheric pressure, wind,
temperature and humidity at different levels of the atmosphere)
Weather map is also used to monitor the movement of a weather disturbance in a certain location.
That’s why in weather forecasting and monitoring, tracing the pathway taken by a typhoon is
equally relevant.
To trace typhoon’s path, we use Coordinate system, a mathematical system that uses one or more
numbers to uniquely determine the position of points in a space.

When a weather disturbance enters Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the
weather bureau begins to monitor it.

Based on the given maps, all of them struck the northern part of the
Philippines.
Three of tropical cyclones mentioned weakened and died out near land.
That means, when tropical cyclones reach land (landfall), they die out
because they are cut off from the warm ocean waters that keep them going.
Philippines is vulnerable to typhoons due to its position near the equator (30
degrees North) and some parts of the island is surrounded oceans that
becomes hotter during summertime.
Since typhoons depend on a heat engine process that requires warm water,
these oceans provide the fuel necessary for typhoon development.
