What is RECRUITMENT ?

In human resources management , “recruitment” is


the process of finding and hiring the best and most
qualified candidate for a job opening, in a timely
and cost-effective manner.

The Recruitment program is designed to attract


more and more applicants such that the pool of
candidates applies for the job, and the organization
has more options to select the best out of them.
Recruitment Needs Are Of Three Types :

 Planned
 Unexpected

 Anticipated
PROCESS OF RECRUITMENT :

Planning :

Recruitment planning includes identifying vacancy, job


analysis, job description & specification.

A structured recruitment plan is mandatory to attract


potential candidates from a pool of candidates.
 Recruitment Strategy :
While preparing a recruitment strategy the HR team
considers the following points –

Make or buy employees


Methods of recruitment
Geographical area
Recruitment sources.
 SEARCHING :

Searching involves attracting the job seekers to the


vacancies. The sources are broadly divided into two
categories –
Internal Sources
External Sources
Sources of Recruitment :

Internal Sources :
1) Promotions

2) Transfers

3) Internal Advertisements

4) Employee Referrals

5) Previous Applicants.
Sources of Recruitment :

External Sources :
1) Direct Recruitment.

2) Employment exchanges

3) Advertisements

4) Word of mouth

5) Campus recruitment.
 SCREENING/SHORTLISTING :
The screening process of recruitment consists of three
steps –

 Reviewing of Resumes and cover Letters


 Conducting telephone or video interview
 Identifying the top candidates
 EVALUATION AND CONTROL :
These include the following-
 Salaries to the recruiters
 Advertisement cost
 Cost incurred in recruiting suitable candidates for the
final selection process
 Time spent by the management and professionals.
FACTORS AFFECTING RECRUITMENT :

Internal Factors : External Factors :

 Size of organization.  Demographic factors.


 Recruitment policy.  Unemployment rate.
 Image of organization.  Competitors.
 Image of Job.  Legal considerations.
Importance of Recruitments :

 Determine the present and future requirements


of the organization.
 Increase the pool of candidates at minimum.
 Help increase the success rate of the selection
process by reducing the number of visibly
under qualified or overqualified job applicants.
 Increase organizational and individual
effectiveness in the short term and long term.
RECRUITMENT VS SELECTION

 Recruitment is a positive process. Conversely,


selection is a negative process.

 Recruitment is an economical process while


the selection is an expensive process.

Recruitment aims at inviting more and more
candidates to apply for the vacant position.
Selection aims at rejecting unsuitable candidates
and appointing the right candidates at the job.
