INTRODUCTION
 Power Line Communication (PLC) is a technology that allows powerlines
to be used for data communication by transferring data over existing
powerlines.
 PLC technology use existing electrical power lines as a transmission
medium to provide data communications capabilities by coupling
modulated carrier signal onto the power line
 The rising ubiquity of data transmission has resulted in a fast growing need
for more bandwidth in the home and office during the last few years. The
hunt for novel ways to transmit data has led to the development of Power
Line Communications (PLC).

4
Introduction Cont’d
Plc attracts attention with communications in smart meters (AMI), home and
industry automation, in-vechile, e.t.c.

The utilization of PLC for local area networking in homes and offices is the
motivation for this project.

Error correction and detection codes will be implemented in the PLC system,
which would help reduce bit errors during transmission, thereby reducing
errors in the channel.

5
5
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 In PLC various loads are connected to the same channel which delivers
power and data simultaneously.

 Linked loads are important causes of channel noise which leads to the
problem of missing data packets during transmission.

 The problem is that a high bit error rate (BER) degrades data transmission
quality and jeopardizes the PLC system's usability.

 To mitigate the problem stated above, this dissertation seeks to improve

PLC Bit error rate(BER) by using an error correction algorithm

6
AIM

The aim of carrying out this research is to develop an

improved error correction technique in powerline
communication for homes and internet of things (IoT) devices.

7
OBJECTIVES
1. To replicate the error correction algorithm in MIMO-PLC channel by [1].

2. To model and simulate a practical multipath PLC channel using

MATLAB2020a.

3. To evaluate and compare the performance of the improved algorithm to that of

[1].

SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH

The scope is to develop an improved error correction technique in powerline

communication for homes and internet of things (IoT) devices to improve bit
error rate (BER) and maximize the capacity of a PLC link by matching the
source information to the receiver information, to ensure that maximum signal
is transferred.

RESEARCH GAP
 The literature survey carried out has shown that various error coding methods
have been employed in the past to reduce the bit error rate and to increase data

EXPECTED RESULT

The intended result at the end of this research work should show
that by utilizing the error correcting code, a low BER can be
achieved.

15
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE

 This work will contribute to the enhancement of bit error rate

(BER) of a PLC channel by obtaining a compelling modulation
scheme results and using an error algorithm to get a low bit error
rate (BER).

 This work is designed to boost the reliability of a plc channel.
