• It can extend to three or more paragraphs according to the content.
• Each paragraph should has one point.
• It contains evidence
• A new paragraph signals to the reader that the writer has moved to a new topic.
• Paragraphs should be linked logically to each other

about.
2. DETAIL SENTENCE or SUPPORTING SENTENCE: It helps support a topic sentence

Conclusion
The conclusion paragraph is the last paragraph in the essay. It
completes the essay by summarizing or repeating the most
important ideas. The conclusion can also include an opinion, a
prediction, or a solution to a problem.

• The concluding paragraph completes the frame around the

essay’s argument, which was opened in the introductory
paragraph.
• Sums up the essay as a whole
• Contextualizes the argument in a wider scope, but does not
introduce new points,
• Leaves the reader with a sense of completion.
Just as every essay has a clear beginning, it should have a clear
ending. The last paragraph, also know as the conclusion, should
make your essay sound finished.

The concluding paragraph typically has two parts:

1.The summary statement is one or two sentences which restate
the thesis in a fresh way to reinforce the essay's main idea.

2.The clincher is a final thought which should create a

lasting impression on the reader.
• The summary statement is an effective way to start your concluding paragraph
because it helps to drive home the ideas you've expressed in your essay.
• Look at your thesis statement again and rework it in a new way. Avoid repeating
key words and phrases from the thesis statement because you don't want the
summary statement to sound boring or repetitive.

Here is an examples of thesis statements and summary statements:

Thesis Statement: Many Americans are buying the Toyota Corolla because of its
competitive price, fuel economy, and high resale value.
Summary Statement: Reasonable pricing, low miles per gallon, and an
attractive resale value have all contributed to the popularity
of the Toyota Corolla in today's market.
• The clincher, also referred to as the closer, is your last opportunity to connect with the reader.
• A clincher sentence is a concluding sentence reinforcing your key message.
• One way to make the most of this moment is to return to the technique you used for your
hook.
If readers would remember one thing from your article
or book chapter, WHAT WOULD IT BE ?
Use one of these sentence starters to help formulate your key point:
• In conclusion or ultimately > add your final say on the topic or sum up your argument
• Remember > remind readers of your key idea—sometimes you only need to rephrase
an earlier sentence
• Your action > tell readers what to do with your advice
• Your takeaway > sum up the main point readers should remember
