Direct Vector Control of Induction Motor: Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology

The document discusses direct vector control of induction motors. It provides an introduction to direct vector control and describes how it can solve problems with scalar control. It then explains the direct vector control scheme and implementation, including comparing rotor flux and stator based calculations for determining flux and torque.

CONTENTS
• INTRODUCTION
• DIRECT VECTOR CONTROL
INTRODUCTION
• The foregoing problems can be solved by vector
or field-oriented control.
• The invention of vector control in beginning of
1970s,and the demonstration that an induction
motor can be controlled like a separately excited
dc motor.
• Vector control will oust scalar control, and will
be accepted as industry standard control for ac
drives
DIRECT VECTOR CONTROL
• The electrical rotor speed Wr is compared to
the reference speed wr and the error is
amplified and limited to generate the reference
(command) torque T The rotor flux linkages
reference lamba is derived from the rotor
speed via an absolute-value function generator.
• Lamda r is kept at 1 p.u. for from 0 to 1 p.u.
rotor speed: beyond 1 p.u. speed.
• it is varied as a function of the rotor speed.
• This is to ensure that the rotor speed is
extended beyond the base speed with the
available de voltage to the inverter.
• by weakening the rotor flux linkages.
• thus reducing the induced emf to lower than
that of the available output voltage from the
inverter.
Direct vector control scheme
• The phase-current control loops can use one of
the following switching techniques:
1.PWM
2.Hysteresis
3.Space vector modulation
Flux and Torque Processor
• The inputs to this block are two stator phase
currents and one set of the following:
either (i) terminal voltages or (ii) induced emf
from the flux-sensing coils or Hall sensors.
• The selection of (i) or (ii) will determine the
computational algorithm.
Flux and torque processor implementation
• CASE (i): Terminal voltages
• (A).Rotor flux based calculation
(B).Stator based calculation
• Steps involved are summarized briefly as
follows.
