Introduction
This course packet is about the 21st century skills of the learners
during Information Age, the different ICT tools that can be used to
cultivate the critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the
significance of the said skills in students’ learning. The 21st century
skills are classified into three - the Learning Skills, the Literacy Skills,
and the Life Skills. Various ICT tools are also introduced which can be
utilized depending on the levels of students’ learning the teacher wants
to measure. Lastly, the significance of the critical thinking and
problem-solving skills to students is also presented.

• Critical thinking is the most important quality
because it is the mechanism of a person in
controlling problems and finding means to solve
them.
• Creativity is similar to adaptation. This skill can
lead to innovation because it empowers the
students to see concepts in a different point of
views.

• Collaboration means getting students to work
together, achieve compromises, and get the best

• Communication is the bind that brings all of these
educational qualities together. It is a requirement
for students to learn how to effectively convey ideas

the 21st Century will lack a pivotal skill to progress

Literacy skills (IMT)
- focus on how students can discern facts,
publishing outlets, and the technology behind
them. There’s a strong focus on determining
trustworthy sources and factual information to
separate it from the misinformation that floods
the Internet.

Information literacy is the basic skill that helps
students to understand facts. It teaches them
how to determine fact from fiction. It is
important for the students to identify or find the
truth online on their own and not be a victim of
misinformation.

Media literacy is the practice of identifying
publishing methods, outlets, and sources while
distinguishing between the ones that are credible
and the ones that are not. The same with the
previous skill, media literacy is beneficial to
students in finding trustworthy sources of
information in their lives. Without it, anything
that looks credible becomes credible.

Technology literacy is about teaching students about
machines involved in the Information Age.
Computers, cloud programming, and mobile devices
are of great importance to people that need to
understand those concepts. Technology literacy gives
students the basic information they need to
understand what gadgets perform what tasks and

What is Critical Thinking?
Critical thinking is clear, rational, logical, and
independent thinking. It is about improving thinking
by analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing how we
think. It also means thinking in a self-regulated and
self-corrective manner. It involves mindful
communication, problem-solving, and a freedom
from bias or egocentric tendency.

Problem solving skills refers to the ability to
solve problems effectively and efficiently. It
involves identifying and defining the problem,
