Introduction To Autocad
AutoCad software is updated every year and different new features are added in
this software to cope-up the change in design field.
AutoCad-2012 and onward versions are made more user friendly. We use Auto
Cad-2013 version.
Configuration of Computer for using Auto Cad
Processor Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon
Draw Tool Bar: It consists different drawing commands like Point, Line,
Rectangle, Circle, Arc, Polygon etc. These commands are usefull for preparing
drawings.
Modify Tool Bar: It consists different modifying commands like Trim, Mirror,
Array, Fillet, Chamfer, Offset etc. These commands are usefull for editing
drawings.
UCS Icon: Any drawing on the screen is created with reference to origin (0,0). This origin
is known as UCS (User Coordinate System) Icon.
Command Bar: We can enter different commands as per our requirements in Command
Bar.
Status Bar: It is used for different type of settings in Auto Cad. It consists tab like Snap,
Grid, Ortho, Polar, Osnap, Otrack etc.
Drawing Area: The user can prepare desired drawing in this area. Generally this screen is
displayed by black background.
Basic Information Of Auto Cad Software
Start a New Drawing
We can start new drawing by clicking “NEW” option from main menu.
We can also start new drawing by using command NEW in command bar.
We can also use short key Ctrl + N

Open any old Drawing
We can open old drawing by clicking “OPEN” option from main menu.
We can also start new drawing by using command OPEN in command bar.
We can also use short key Ctrl + O

Save any Drawing
We can open old drawing by clicking “SAVE” option from main menu.
We can also start new drawing by using command SAVE in command bar.
We can also use short key Ctrl + S

Method of object selection in Auto Cad
Selection by Mouse Click
Mouse pointer is dragged on the object and then click left mouse button.
The selected object is displayed as dotted lines.
Method of object selection in Auto Cad
Simple window selection
Window is created by clicking mouse at lower left corner and dragging towards
right.
The objects which are fully covered in this window are selected.

Crossing window selection
Window is created by clicking mouse at lower right corner and dragging towards
left.
The objects which are in touch with boundary are selected. In this method
object is not required to fully covered by boundary.
