Memory refers to

Two Types of Memory
• Read Only Memory
(ROM)
• Random Access
Memory (RAM)
Read Only Memory
Chips are located in the motherboard.
ROM chips can retain their contents even when the computer is
powered down. The content cannot be erased.
Rom is Non-Volatile means that the data is permanent.
Random Access Memory
Is a temporary storage for data and programs.
RAM is Volatile Means the content are erased when the computer is
powered off.
Memory cells built right
into the CPU that contain
Register specific data needed
particularly the Arithmetic
and Logic Unit.
Types of Storage
Drives
Floppy Drive
- Is a storage device that uses
removable 3–5-inch disk.
- These Magnetic floppy disk can
store 720 KB or 1.44 MB of data in a
computer
Hard Disk Drive
A magnetic storage device that stored
inside the computer.
- It is used as permanent storage
for data.
- It contains the operating System
and applications
Optical Drive
- It is uses lasers to read data on the optical
media.
- 3 types of optical Media
CD
DVD
BD
Example: CD-ROM (compact dics-read-only
Optical Media memory), CD-R (compact dics-recordable),
CD-RW (compact dics-rewritable),
Flash Drive
- Also known as Thumb
