A Legacy of Faith: Genesis 12:1-3, 2:22 Hebrews 11:8-9

This document discusses leaving a legacy of faith for children. It uses Abraham as an example of having faith by obeying God's call without knowing the destination, trusting God even when leaving his comfort zone, and being willing to sacrifice until it hurts by almost sacrificing his son Isaac. The document encourages passing this legacy of faith onto children by emulating Abraham's life of faith, impressing God's word on them, and making choices that orient family life around God. The goal is to leave faith in one's children rather than just material gifts.

A LEGACY OF FAITH

Genesis 12:1-3, 2:22; Hebrews 11:8-9

WHAT IS LEGACY?
• Something you pass on
• A gift by will

WHAT IS LEGACY
IN THE BIBLE?
• HERITAGE
• INHERITANCE
WHAT LEGACY YOU WANT TO PASS ON TO YOUR
CHILDREN?
As CHILDREN OF GOD, we are called to
LIVE BY FAITH

For WITHOUT FAITH, it is IMPOSSIBLE to PLEASE GOD

Hebrews 11:6
We are called to pass on a
“LEGACY OF FAITH”
Faith is a deep conviction that God’s words are true and
that He will perform all that He promises. It is an inner
confidence that He will do what He says.
THE LEGACY OF ABRAHAM
“A Man of Faith”
1. HE accepted GOD’S CALL even without
knowing where it LEADS.
Hebrews 11:8-9
It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that

God would give him as his inheritance. HE WENT WITHOUT KNOWING WHERE HE WAS
GOING
Through FAITH, it allowed ABRAHAM
to
- FOLLOW GOD
- TRUST GOD
- NOT WORRY about the DESTINATION
HEBREWS 11:1
“ FAITH shows the reality of what we hope for, it is the evidence of
things we cannot see”
ABRAHAM LEFT WITH ONLY A PROMISE
GENESIS 12:2-3
2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a
blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt.
All the families on earth will be blessed through you
BUT HE NEVER DOUBTED NOR
WAVERED
ROMANS 4:20
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he
brought glory to God.
ABRAHAM believed in the CHARACTER OF
GOD
and that is the BEGINNING POINT OF FAITH
NUMBERS 23:19
God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not
change His mind.
Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not
carried it through?
Our GOD is not a U-TURN GOD, but a
STRAIGHT AHEAD GOD to his PROMISES.
ISAIAH 43:13
From eternity to eternity I am GOD. No one can snatch anyone out of my
hand. No one can undo
What I have done.
BE AN EXAMPLE to your children in ENTRUSTING
the UNKNOWN FUTURE to an ALL KNOWING GOD
JEREMIAH 17-7-8
But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and
Confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such
trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they
never stop producing fruit.
2. HE ACCEPTED GOD’S CALL even when it means moving
out of his comfort zone
GENESIS 12:1-3
The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and
your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.
FAITH requires us to leave our
SECURITY
GOD cannot do what He want to do, and
LEAD where He want to LEAD because YOU
are afraid to step out of your comfort zone
Do not let the comfort and security of your present
position make you miss God’s plan for you.
PSALMS 39:4-5
4 “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life
is.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.
LIFE IS SHORT
do not neglect what truly matters.

Teach our children not to spend so
much time securing their life on earth
and take little or no thought about where
they will spend eternity.

“Set your minds on things above, not on

earthly things.”
COLOSSIANS 3:2

“Set your minds on things above, not on

earthly things.”
COLOSSIANS 3:2
ECCLESIASTES 2:11
11 But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless
—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.

* TEACH children toward the single purpose of KNOWING GOD. Help them to build a life not on perishable pursuit but on a LIFE OF
FAITH IN GOD.

* HELP them DIRECT their HOPE to the only ONE who can fulfill them and give their LIFE MEANING AND PURPOSE.
WITHOUD GOD as your FOUNDATION, all you
are LIVING IS MEANINGLESS

Lives are like building, and the QUALITY OF ONE’s FOUNDATION

will determine the QUALITY OF THE WHOLE.
Never Wait for the perfect time and place
for BIBLE READING, don’t wait for a
PERFECT CHURCH for you to GO TO
CHURCH, don’t wait for the PERFECT
MINISTRY for you TO SERVE.

Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every

cloud, they never harvest

ECCLESIASTES 11:4
3. HE ACCEPTED GOD’S CALL even it means sacrificing until it hurts.

GENESIS 22:2
Take your son, your only son, yes Isaac, whom you love so much-and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of
the mountains which I will show you.
“Whatever you are holding the tightest is the very thing on which God want you to give up”

FAITH requires us to SACRIFICE until it hurts

SACRIFICE is an outward sign of our Faith in GOD.

GENESIS 22:3
The next morning Abraham got up early. He
saddled his donkey and took two of his servant
with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he
chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set
out for the place God had told him about.
GENESIS 22:5

“Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the
servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We
will worship there, and then we will come right back.”

GENESIS 22:7-8

Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes,
my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the
wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the
burnt offering?”8 “God will provide a sheep for the
burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they
both walked on together.

God meant that ISAAC must live on.

GENESIS 17:19
19
But God replied, “No—Sarah, your wife, will
give birth to a son for you. You will name him
Isaac,  and I will confirm my covenant
[a]

with him and his descendants as an

everlasting covenant.

GENESIS 21:12
12
But God told Abraham, “Do not be upset over
the boy and your servant. Do whatever Sarah
tells you, for Isaac is the son through
whom your descendants will be counted.
REAL FAITH will have a REAL COST

  LUKE 9:23-25
Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves
and take up their cross daily and follow me. For
whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever
loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for
someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit
their very self.
• Teach our children to SURRENDER TO
HIM. It means to put our mind, body and
spirit in His hands to do as He so desires.

• Teach them to LOVE the GIVER and not

the gifts.

• Remind them that NOTHING

MATERIAL can compensate for the loss
of eternal life
Proverbs 22:6:
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are
older, they will not leave it.

Emulate a LIFE OF FAITH just like Abraham

Impress unto them the WORD OF GOD.

Teach God in the context of daily life, make GOD a part of

everyday experiences.

Make choices that help your FAMILY orient their lives around
GOD and recognize opportunities to serve HIS PURPOSE.

“It is not what you leave to your children

that matters, but what you leave in them”

Decide today to leave a LEGACY OF FAITH
