▪ A line manager is the person who has direct responsibility for

employees and their work? Since line managers seem to have such
a large part to play in people’s management today, to what extent do
you think we need human resource managers at all? Think back to
the first 2 activities where you detailed what a line manager does
and what HR does. What do the line managers do in those areas?
What might impact on HR strategies and policies

▪ Do you think that Sainsbury’s has the same HR policies

as Noodle Nation in High Wycombe?
▪ If not, why not? Think about all the other elements you
have already learned in this module which might explain
this.
Activity
▪ What do you think are the main areas in which
an HR Manager is likely to be involved? Again,
think about any part-time work you already do
and what HR does in that organisation? Think
about what happens from trying to bring
someone into an organisation until they leave.
