Where:
fn = actual bending stress normal to the roof.
ft = actual bending stress tangential to the roof.
Mn and Mt = Maximum actual moment normal and tangential to the roof.

Where:

DESIGN OF PURLINS
Loads carried by purlins:
Purlins is analyzed and designed based on the following loadings (might be all considered):
a. Self Weight
b. Weight of Roofing transferred to purlins
b. Wind Load
c. Ceiling Load
d. Live Load
e. Any other load present in the roof as carried by purlins
Wind Load: (Duchemins Formula)

Where:
P = wind pressure perpendicular to vertical surface.
Pn = wind pressure perpendicular to normal surface.
V = Velocity of the wind per NSCP in kph.
DESIGN OF PURLINS
Problem/Online Work:
A roof truss having a span of 8m. A height of 2m. is placed at 4m apart. Purlins are spaced on top of
the chord of the trusses at a spacing of 800 mm O.C.
