CONTEMPORARY

ARTS: TECHNIQUES
AND PRACTICES
New age in the evolution of art implies the
development of new techniques. These
recent techniques determine the movement
in which this art is directed. Contemporary
art focuses largely on minimalism, found
objects, and large scale paintings. Each of
these techniques brings a fresh perspective
to artistry and expression making art creation
more interesting and original.
Minimalism

A relevant development in art technique during the


contemporary art movement. Minimalism seeks to take
away what's unnecessary and leaving only what's
essential. Minimalism is trying to take away the
unnecessary and retaining the best features.
Minimalism has even affected branding as every
company desires to focus on what is only necessary
and that is the product itself.
Found Objects

This is one of the most remarkable movement in


contemporary art. It offers diverse ways to
express one's self through find objects. Those that
are considered useless and are just pieces of
'junk' can actually put a twist in your creation. It
renders the art work distinctly unique and
genuine.
Large-Scale Art

Creating huge art has become very popular as it


expresses differences in perspective but
uniqueness in its message. Creating something
huge has become popular as it connects with the
concerns of the environment. Large-scale art has
become a very important movement within
contemporary arts.
Contemporary Visual Art Medium
Art medium

It is the material or elements used by an artist or designer to create an art.


Medium in art pertains to the materials used in the creation of art works that
serves as a channel of communication to the listeners, audience, viewers or
maybe readers. It is the method of communicating the artist's insights,
feelings and sentiments through the creation. Mediums are necessary to
transform the artist's creative ideas which are abstractions to something more
concrete and tangible for greater appreciation.

The contemporary medium used in creating an art work in its varied forms
which has become a product of either the combination of the traditional
forms and the modern products which have resulted form innovative and
resourceful creativity. This is also referred to as hybrid media which reflect a
more intense and unique expression of the Artist's sentiment and ideas.
Contemporary Philippine Architecture

Contemporary Architecture is definable broadly as the building style of the present


day. However ,examples do not necessarily have similar or easily recognizable features
because the “style” is really quite varied and has a number of different influences.
Contemporary Painting and Drawing

Media, in drawing, pertains to those manually used and


the base to which it is applied such as à paper and a
pencil. Contemporary media involves the use of the
traditional such as crayon, oil paint, Gouache, human
finger and the like. However, with the rise of greater
dynamism among artists, other forms of media were
utilized to deliver a more intense art work. This involves
the use of 'out of the box' materials such as the following
'Indigenous materials which includes the following:
1. Coffee
2. Wine from coconut juice (Tuba)
3. Garlic
4. Rust
5. Human blood
6. Onion
7. Mud
8. Human hair
9. Tomato
10. Soy sauce
11. Staple wires

Solar Art
Sunlight through a magnifying glass is utilized by Artist Jordan
Mang-osan while painting his master piece featuring Manny
Pacquiao.
Ronald Ventura on his 'Recyclables'

Ronald Ventura, a contemporary Filipino artist refined his


signature style of multi-layered paintings, which utilizes a
broad range of imagery and focuses on the human form.
Contemporary Philippine Sculpture

Philippine Sculpture is the most familiar art forms among Filipinos. From the
transitional carving of anitos to the santos to Christ and down to the saints,
Filipinos find it rather not difficult as they are already familiar with the ways of the
wood.
Contemporary Philippine Photography

The development of Electronic media came the rise of electronic art or


Digital art which involves the use of computers and even handheld
gadgets that has the capacity to draw, edit and modify images such as
drawings and photos.
Fashion Photography

Fashion photography has been in existence since the earliest days of


photography. Fashion photography has now become such a popular thing in
society, especially with new fashion icons and fashion trends going around.
Contemporary Film

Cinematography and film in the contemporary period has evolved a lot as


technology has been used to ease the work of the cast, crew and the film
Director. Similar to the traditional medium which requires individual images or
frames shown in rapid succession is still being employed.
Contemporary Literature

Much has changed in how written material specifically literature is read in the
contemporary period. Written narratives, short stories, novels and the like are not
necessarily found on published materials anymore but largely on on-line sources
such as the Tagalog Online Pocketbook, Pinoypub.ph, Wattpad and the like.
Contemporary Performing Art

The term Contemporary Performance is used to describe hybrid performance works


and artists that travel between the fields of Experimental Theatre & Dance, Video
Art, Visual Art, Music Composition and Performance Art without adhering to one
specific field's practice.
Contemporary Technical Products

Contemporary Art is not only confined to films, paintings, performing arts and the like
but also to products that define Filipino artistry and ingenuity. Such is revealed in the
creation of the very unique and intricately made lanterns from Pampanga. Lantern-
making is difficult in every inch of its production. Lighting varies with its corresponding
movement and color.
