Understanding The Self in The Aspect of Interdisciplinary

Interdisciplinary learning enables making connections across different subjects by exploring relevant links between curriculum areas. It provides opportunities for deepening learning. Interdisciplinary learning is purposeful, grounded in disciplines, and integrative. It is planned around clear purposes and can provide mixed stage learning based on interests. Integration is key, bringing together knowledge from different subjects to enrich understanding. Effective interdisciplinary learning is tailored to learners' needs, based on their existing skills, and involves learners in planning.

What Is Interdisciplinary Learning?

Interdisciplinary learning enables teachers and learners to make

connections across learning through exploring clear and relevant links across the
curriculum. It provides opportunities for deepening learning

The purpose of interdisciplinary learning gives
direction and meaning to students’ efforts. It points to
the problem or issue that students will examine, making
its relevance visible. Having a clear purpose for inquiry
and work (solving a particular problem, explaining a
phenomenon) enables teachers and students to discern
between more and less relevant disciplines and
connections

Disciplines
A strong disciplinary grounding in students’ work does not
mean that students must “fully master” each discipline
before integrating views. Rather, students are encouraged
to master particular concepts and modes of thinking in two
or more disciplines that are relevant to meet the
established purpose of their work.

Interdisciplinary learning is integrative
Integration is at the heart of interdisciplinary work.
In multidisciplinary or thematic approaches to
learning, students examine a topic through distinct
disciplinary perspectives but do not seek to make
connections across such perspectives. Students are
encouraged to bring together knowledge,
understanding, skills and attitudes learned in
different disciplines or subject groups to deepen and
enrich their understanding.
How is interdisciplinary
learning planned?
Interdisciplinary learning is most effective when
it is tailored to and meets learners’ needs.
To do this, practitioners might combine
curriculum areas within a theme or context
and at the same time ensure that the
learning is based on clearly identified next
steps.

Learners might also be involved in choosing a

theme or a topic, unless they are fully involved
in detailed content planning they are likely to
miss out on important opportunities to build on
their previous learning.
Other features of effective planning for
interdisciplinary learning include

planning by building on learning intentions and
their existing knowledge success criteria within
and skills, whilst also short term planning.
ensuring progression and
coherence within an
overall framework which
has been designed by
staff based on the
principles of curriculum
design;
Effective interdisciplinary learning is often
based around a few big ideas which describe
the interdisciplinary elements of combining a
few curriculum areas.
This often involves:

 Creating interdisciplinary  sharing the interdisciplinary

learning outcomes; learning outcomes/big ideas
with children and young
 using the interdisciplinary people; and
learning outcomes or big
ideas as the main focus for
assessment
Example
-The teacher ask us to create a plan about our future business
by analyzing the possible conflict we might encounter. Using
skills and concepts from different subjects. We can volunteer
to present our solutions,or answering questions from
classmates.
