VI. READING AND COMPREHENSION.
What is your favorite city in the world?
New York City

New York is the most populous city in the United States and the
center of the New York Metropolitan and one of the most populous urban
agglomerations in the world. It is also the home of the United Nations
Headquarters. New York is an important center for international
diplomacy and it is the cultural capital of the world. You should visit the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Empire State Building and, of course,
The Statue of Liberty.
Located on one of the world’s largest natural harbors, New York City
consists of five boroughs, each of which is a county of New York State.
The five boroughs are— The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and
Staten Island. New York is the most densely populated major city in the
United States. There are many people from all over the world in New
York, so there are about 800 different languages, making it the most
linguistically diverse city in the world.
New York City is located in the Northeastern United States,
in southeastern New York State, approximately halfway
between Washington, D.C. and Boston.
The New York City metropolitan area is ethnically diverse.
It is home to the largest Jewish community outside Israel.
There are also many skyscrapers in New York, one of the most
famous is The Empire State Building. Some of the most famous
parks in New York are: Central Park in Manhattan, Prospect
Park in Brooklyn, the historic Battle Pass is inside it, Flushing
Meadows in Queens and New York Botanical Gardens are in the
Bronx.
You shouldn’t miss The Statue of Liberty; the most famous
icon from the city. It is in the middle of the river, between New
York and New Jersey, on Liberty Island.

THE SEASONS

Winter Summer Spring Autumn/Fall

In USA, There are 4 seasons. In the winter, it’s usually freezing and
snowy. In the summer, it’s really hot. It’s warm and rainy in the
spring. There are also many flowers. In the fall, it’s usually cold,
and sometimes, it snows or rains. In Venezuela, we don’t have four
seasons. There are only two seasons; a rainy season and a dry
season. What season is it now in your country?

  MARACAIBO. BELOVED LAND BY THE SUN
Come to Maracaibo! Maracaibo is one of the most beautiful cities in Venezuela. It’s the land
of the “ Gaita ”, “ Chinita ” Virgin and the “ Cepillados ”. It’s a pretty exciting city, but it’s
also very hot (37ºC-40ºC), so you should wear shorts, sandals and t-shirts, almost all the
time. The best time of year to come to Maracaibo is in November. It’s the “ Chinita’s Fair ”.
Maracaibo has a lot of beautiful women and many interesting places to visit. You should go to
“ The Basilica de Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquira ”, or you can visit the “ Paseo Ciencias ”,
where you ought to see the “ Chinita’s ” Monument on the same place where the virgin
appeared long time ago, “ Vereda del Lago ”, a beautiful park on “ El Milagro ” Avenue, and
“ El Saladillo ”, one of the most important old neighborhoods in the city. If you want to go
shopping, you’d better go to the “ Sambil ” Mall. It is on “ Goajira ” Avenue. There, you can
buy clothing, jewelry, and many other things, because there are many kinds of different
stores. If you’re hungry, you have to try the typical food, pastelitos , empanadas , tequeños ,
mojito en coco , and for dessert, dulce de hicacos , limonzón or huevos chimbos . Yummy!
They’re so delicious! Don’t forget to try the “ Cepillados ”, too. Maracaibo is also a big city, so
there are many people, and there is a lot of traffic at rush hours. There are some things that
you shouldn’t do in Maracaibo, for example: You shouldn’t go to the beach or swim in
Maracaibo’s Lake, it’s really polluted. You had better not visit the flea market downtown, it’s
dirty and dangerous. Welcome to Maracaibo and have fun!
