Eclipse 300
Running ECLIPSE 300 is similar to running ECLIPSE
100, but not identical.
We will highlight similarities and differences
Simulation Equations
Similar combination of:
Continuity Equation
(Black Oil: Conservation of Mass)
(Compositional: Conservation of moles)
(Compositional: EoS to determine phases)
Fluid Flow Equation
ECLIPSE 100 and 300 Integration
• ECLIPSE 100
• Black oil
• ECLIPSE 300
• Black oil
• K-Value compositional
• EoS compositional
• Thermal
E300 Program Usage
• ECLIPSE 300 is a batch orientated program taking input from a
standard data file. Other input files of the same type can be
referenced by the INCLUDE keyword
• All other pre-processor output (i.e. from PVTi, VFPi, FILL, GRID,
FloGrid, SCAL, SCHEDULE) go through the ECLIPSE 300 data file
(normally via the INCLUDE keyword)
• ECLIPSE 300 models can be set up, run and monitored by
ECLIPSE Office.

ECLIPSE 300 File Sections
• Input File Sections
• The Input file has up to 8 sections, each starting with introductory
keyword.
• The RUNSPEC Section
• Basic dimension data, option switches
• The GRID Section
• Define simulation grid, permeabilities/transmissibilities, porosity
net-to-gross.
• Values may be specified for all cells. Values may be specified for
all cells with a single keyword, or for ‘boxes’ of cells.
• Output from GRID may be included in this section.
The EDIT Section (OPTIONAL)
• Once the GRID section data has been read, the
program evaluates pore volumes, transmissibilities
etc. These may be modified or overwritten in the
EDIT section, using the BOX, MULTIPLY, EQUALS
syntax.
The PROPS Section
• PVT and relative permeability data is entered in tabular form. In
multiple table case, all tables for a given keyword are entered
together.
• Equation of state data - this is where PVO file generated by PVTi
simulator should be entered.
The REGIONS and SOLUTION Sections
• Regions
• Specifies regions for PVT tables, reporting, equilibration etc. and also
EoS regions. In each case, NX .NY .NZ integers giving region
number for a cell follow keyword.
• Solution Section
• Specifies initial solution in one of three ways:
• Equilibration from oil - water and gas-oil contacts
• Explicitly specifying initial solution using PRESSURE, SWAT,
XMF, YMF, etc.
• Non - equilibrium initialization (RESTART)
