INTRODUCTION TO CISCO
Computer Information System Company[CISCO]

Cisco Systems was founded in

December 1984 by Sandy Lerner, a
director of computer facilities for
the Stanford University Graduate
School of Business.

The name "Cisco" was derived from

the city name San Francisco, which
In 1987, Stanford licensed the router software is why the company's engineers
and two computer boards to Cisco. The insisted on using the lower case
company's first CEO was Bill Graves, who "cisco" in its early years. The logo
held the position from 1987 to 1988. is intended to depict the two towers
of the Golden Gate Bridge. In
1990 cisco market capitalization
was $224 million.
Cisco Certified Network
Associate(CCNA) is one of the
two most popular network-
related certifications provided
by Cisco Systems.

MISSION:
CISCO deals in products related to
connectivity and communications
and creating unprecedented value
for all the stakeholders.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT

I successfully completed my CISCO Internship at ATME COLLEGE OF
ENGINEERING , Mysuru.
The successful completion of my Internship would be incomplete without the
mention of the names of the people who have made it possible . I am Intended to
several individual who have helped us to complete the internship.

I am thankful to Dr. L Basavaraj , Principal, ATME College of Engineering for

granted me a permission and extended full use of the college facilities to carry out
this Internship successfully.

I express my profound gratitude to Dr. Puttegowda D Professor & Head,
Department of Computer Science and Engineering for his consistent co-operation and
support.

At the outset I express my profound gratitude to my guide and coordinator Mr Kiran
B , Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering for her
consistent co-operation and support.
WHAT IS NETWORK?
 A network can be described as a system of interconnected devices that can communicate
using some common standards (called protocols). These devices communicate to exchange
resources (e.g. files and printers) and services.
 Here is an example network consisting of several computers connected together.
Computer Networks

 A computer network or data network is a digital telecommunication network which allows nodes to share
resources.
 In computer networks, networked computing devices exchange data with each other using a data link.
 The connections between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media.

Usually, networks are categorized on the basis of
their area of operation as shown in Fig.
Equipment that connects directly to a
network segment is referred to as a
device.

These devices are divided into two

Fig: Network Categorization
classifications.
1. End-user devices.

2. Network devices.

CASE STUDY 1
8.1.4.7 SUBNETTING SCENARIO

Scenario

In this activity, you are given the network address of 192.168.100.0/24 to subnet and provide the IP
addressing for the network shown in the topology. Each LAN in the network requires enough space for, at
least 25 addresses for the end devices, the switch and the router. The connection between R1 to R2 will
require an IP address for each end of the link.
Objectives
Part 1: Design an IP Addressing Scheme
Part 2: Assign IP Addresses to Network Devices and Verify Connectivity
CASE STUDY 2
6.4.3.3 CONNECT A ROUTER TO A LAN

Scenario

In this activity, you will use various show commands to display the current state of the router.
You will then use the Addressing Table to configure router Ethernet interfaces. Finally, you will
use commands to verify and test your configurations.
Objective
Part 1: Display Router Information

Part 2: Configure Router Interfaces

Part 3: Verify the Configuration

CASE STUDY 3
8.1.3.3 CONFIGURING DHCPv4 USING CISCO IOS

Scenario

A dedicated DHCP server is scalable and relatively easy to manage, but can be costly to have
one at every location in a network. However, a Cisco router can be configured to provide
DHCP services without the need for a dedicated server. As the network technician for your
company, you are tasked with configuring a Cisco router as a DHCP server to provide dynamic
allocation of addresses to clients on the network. You are also required to configure the edge
router as a DHCP client so that it receives an IP address from the ISP network.
Objectives
Part 1: Configure a Router as a DHCP Server

Part 2: Configure DHCP Relay

Part 3:Configure a Router as a DHCP Client

Part 4: Verify DHCP and Connectivity

BENEFITS OF NETWORK
 Sharing of devices such as printer and scanner.
 Sharing of program/software.
 Sharing of files.
 Sharing of data.
 Sharing of Information.
 Sharing of single high-speed internet connection.
 Can access server centered database.
 Better communication using internet services such as email, mailing list and Internet
Relate Chat (IRC).
CERTIFICATE
CONCLUSION
 At the end of the Internship, I was able to:

 Build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IPv4
and IPv6 addressing schemes.

 Configure routers, switches, and end devices to provide access to local and remote network
resources and to enable end-to-end connectivity between remote devices.

 Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills using real equipment and Cisco Packet
Tracer.
 Configure and troubleshoot connectivity a small network using security best practices.
