Global Communication Definition

• A person or an organization in one country sends a message. 

• The message is encoded. 

• The message travels through a channel or medium. 

• The receiver in another country decodes the message.

• The recipient receives the message.


What is Global Communication?
• It is related to share information among nations by speaking, writing,
reading, listening and by using signals. It is influence by culture,
politics, media, economies, health and relationships in the age of
globalization and spread out through many different channels

technological advancements and international relations.
• The rise of a global media system first became visible in the late eighteenth
and early nineteenth centuries with the early development of a global
infrastructure of Telegraph and Telephone and wireless connections and
global news distribution (through Reuters, Havas, and Wolff).
• “The web of interconnections and interdependence constituting the global
media system of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth could also be
seen in governments’ willingness to rely on foreign firms to meet their foreign
communication and military security interests” (Winseck and Pike, 2007: xvi)

CULTURE
Many people perceive culture to be the root of communication
challenges. When people from two different cultures try to exchange
information, the way they speak, their body language or their
mannerisms can be interpreted differently by the other person. The
way people approach problems and how they participate in
communities is all influenced by culture.
Some source of Cultural barriers
• Language: Language is considered as the most crucial barrier in cross-
cultural communication. Since verbal communication is important in
every context, the understandings of the meaning of words are also
important. The language barrier occurs not only because of
differences in language but also in the forms of a variety of dialects. 
• Values and Beliefs: The differences in values and beliefs in cultures
also create a barrier in communication. The difference in the level of
acceptability in cultures is an example. 
• Stereotypes: Stereotypes are any negative image or preconceived
notions on a particular community and identity.
