Research Motivation
security of information transfer via wireless networks remains a
challenging issue.
Jamming and eavesdropping are two primary attacks at the physical
layer of a wireless network.
Most commonly used security methods rely on cryptographic
techniques employed at the upper layers of a wireless network.
With regard to a symmetric cryptographic technique such as the
Data Encryption Standard (DES), a common private key is
normally shared by two users.
If these two users do not have this private key, a secure channel is
required for the key exchange. Instead of using an additional
channel, the physical layer methods can be employed here to
distribute secret keys, to supply location privacy and to supplement
upper-layer security algorithms.

Research Motivation:
The complex electromagnetic propagation phenomena involved in modern
wireless communications are taken into account by appropriate channel
modeling.
Statistical channel models are a powerful tool for communication engineers since
they are able to capture the fundamental behaviour of the wireless channel with
reasonably simple mathematical formulation.
Wireless propagation suffers with path loss, shadowing and fading which depends
on regional - geography. Statistical behaviours of various propagation
environments are available in literatures. Relay link can be easily modelled in

such propagation environment.
A Small Overview Cooperative Systems
Cellular networks generally suffer from three fundamental problems:
Interference, Limited coverage and Capacity shortage.
To alleviate these problems, it is proposed that communication between
a Base Station (BS) and a Mobile Station (MS) can be performed not
only directly but also via a Relay Station (RS).

Motivation Behind Mixed RF/FSO System
Multiple users with only RF capability can be multiplexed into a single
FSO link.
The mixed RF/FSO relay communication has the ability to fill the
connectivity gap between the last-mile network and the backbone
network as in the developing countries where the last-mile connectivity
can be delivered via high-speed FSO links.
Such mixed relaying scheme saves the economic resources by avoiding
unnecessary modifications to the current mobile devices and at the
same time saves the bandwidth by utilizing the FSO These attractive
features of mixed RF/FSO relay networks make them a strong
candidate for current and coming wireless networks.

Channel Modelling:
In wireless transmission, the characteristics of the signal changes as it travels
from the transmitter to the receiver.
Existence of line of sight path between the antennas,
Reflection, refraction and diffraction of the signal due to the objects
in between the antennas,
The relative motion between the transmitter and receiver and the
objects in between them,
The signal attenuation as it travels through the medium,
Noise
The received signal can be obtained from the transmitter signal if we can
accurately model the channel in between the antennas.
