Overview
 Learning Management as the name suggests:
 Manages the learning needs of the organization
 Helps to create and arrange courses as per the learner and organization
needs
 Decide on the kind of content structure
 Manages tests, assessment and resources needs
 Helps us to manage, book and create resources.

 Enrollments can also be effectively tracked and managed.

Features

 The major features of OLM are as under:

 Catalog Management
 Content Administration
 Resources and enrollments
 Self Service Interface

 Learning Management can be extended to Customers,

Employees and Partners.
Definitions
 Catalog
The catalog is the application's primary administrative structure, a nested hierarchy
that enables you and your learners to browse all available learning, or to drill down
to detailed class descriptions.
Categories, courses, learning paths, learning certifications, offerings, classes, and
sessions-are the building blocks of the catalog.

 Category
Categories organize the catalog so that learners and administrators can find what
they're looking for. A category can hold courses, learning paths, or other categories.

 Course
Course define subject matter and instructional objectives. It defines What a class
teaches a learner.
Definitions
 Offering
Offering determines how the learning is delivered. It defines the delivery
mode and language of a course.

 Class
Classes are enrollable instances of offerings.

 Session
Sessions are the subdivisions of classes. To create a detailed agenda for a
class, you can break it down into shorter sessions, specifying the location and
schedule of each session.

Catalog Management

A catalog is the application’s primary administrative structure, a

nested hierarchy that enables you and your learners to browse all
available learning, or to drill down to detailed class descriptions.
From here you create and maintain all your catalog objects:
categories, courses, offerings, classes, and sessions. From the
catalog, you can also create and maintain other objects that are not a
part of the nested hierarchy such as, learning paths, and learning
certifications.

Features of OLM
Resources

 Resources are facilities, people, or equipment that are needed to run any
educational or learning programs in an enterprise.

 The following enable us to manage resources:

 Training Resource Key Flexfield

 Resource Types
 Resources
 Resource Booking
Features of OLM
Enrollments

 Helps to manage and track the learners who have enrolled for
various courses, learning paths etc.

 Enrollment can be controlled using Learner Access. Automatic

Waitlisting allows the streamlining of the courses and classes.

 Learners use Learner’s Self Service while the Administrator can

use the Learning Administrator to facilitate enrollments.
Features of OLM
Self Service Interface

 Self-Service interfaces empowers learners, managers, and

instructors to access and manage their learning.
 Learners can create Learning Paths and enroll into courses.
 Managers can use this to track the employees learning needs.
 Instructors can facilitate the classes they teach and
communicate with the Learners.
Training Resource Key Flexfield and Look up table
Overview
 Training resources are any people, facilities, or equipment that we
require to book to run a class.
 It helps to define a structure for each resource type.
 Lookup’s help in defining values available to the user to be entered in
a particular field.
 Resource Lookup define the Resource Types.
 The Code of Segments and Lookup should be same for this Resource.

Learning Path

 Learning paths help to monitor performance and develop the careers of your
workforce. Learning paths group courses into meaningful sequences, and can include
completion targets to indicate to subscribers the dates by which they should complete
the learning path.
 Learning path types come from three sources:
 Catalog learning paths, created by a learning administrator, appear in the learner
catalog and enable multiple learners to follow a path.
 Manager learning paths enable managers to specify courses of study for their
employees, either directly or as a result of another Human Resources activity such as
a performance appraisal.
 Learner learning paths, created by learners to set their own goals, define a plan to
achieve them, and measure their progress along the way.

Content Management
• Content is learning material made available to learners
through online classes.
• Courseware developers and subject matter experts design
and build the content, which learners view in a player that
runs inside a Web browser.
• Content can be any Web-playable format, such as slides,
text documents, html pages, video clips, or other multimedia
format. OLM enables you to administer and deliver online
content.
Components of Content
 Folder

 Learning Object

 Question Bank

 Question

 Test

 Test Section
 Folder
Folders are designed to reflect the structure of the learning material.
Use a logical hierarchy and a meaningful naming scheme for the folders and other objects in the content hierarchy.
To better manage the content structure, establish naming conventions for all objects in your application.

 Learning Object
Learning objects are the database objects that represent the physical content residing on a content server. Learning
objects facilitate the management and delivery of online content.

 Test
A test is a means of measuring a learner’s performance, knowledge, and skills. Tests can be scored or not scored.
When a test is scored, and a mastery score is specified, a learner passes or fails a test based on the
results.

 Question Bank
Question banks consist of questions, each containing the question text (or question stem or prompt), possible
responses, and feedback (if any). The feedback typically informs the test taker if they have answered correctly, and
can include a learning tip.
