Project Management: Amen, Angielyn T. Villanueva, Hannah Gianne D

Project management involves coordinating activities to achieve objectives within constraints of time, cost, and resources. It is a temporary process with defined start and end times. Project management methodologies help standardize processes to reduce risks and avoid duplication. A project ecosystem considers both internal organizational factors and external environmental factors that influence projects. Project managers fill critical roles as integrators, communicators, and leaders to coordinate project activities and ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and within scope.

PROJECT

MANAGEMENT
Prepared by
Amen, Angielyn T.
Villanueva, Hannah Gianne D.
What is a Project?

A temporary process, which has a clearly defined start

and end time, with a set of tasks and a budget,
developed to accomplish a well-defined objective.

Is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a

unique product or service.
What is a Project Management?

A unique process consisting of a set of coordinated and

controlled activities with start and finish dates, undertaken to
achieve an objective conforming to specific requirements,
including constraints of time, cost and resources.

Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills,

tools, and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to
meet the requirements of a particular project.
Project Management Characteristics

• Coordinated and controlled activities

• A temporary organization
• A time and cost constrained operation
• Application of knowledge, skills, tools, and
techniques
Types of Project Management
Lean Project Management
Waterfall Project Management
This methodology is all about avoiding waste,
Steps are linear and progress flows in both of time and of resources. The principles of
one direction, like a waterfall. Each this methodology were gleaned from Japanese

sequences and timelines are very fewer resources.
important in this type of project
management.

Agile Project Management

Agile project management is an
iterative process focused on the
continuous monitoring and
improvement of deliverables. High-
quality deliverables are a result of
providing customer value, team
interactions, and adapting to current
business circumstances.
Project Challenges
• Objectives not properly defined.
• Insufficient planning and coordination of resources
• Poor estimation of duration and cost
• Incomplete, unrealistic and outdated project plans
• Lack of communication
• Inadequate definition and acceptance of roles
• Poor commitment to the project by the team
• Weak control processes
• Lack of risk analysis
• Lack of good quality controls
A project management
methodology can help
development organizations
meet their strategic goals by
standardizing processes,
reducing risks, and avoiding
duplication of efforts.
Project Ecosystem

Development Projects must operate in a

broader environment, project managers
need to consider projects within this
greater context.

Project don’t exist in isolation they are Project

Project Management Processes
Process is defined as a collection of related, structured activities or
task that produce a specific result.
There are nine management processes that are relevant to development projects. Theses are
designed to help manage the different elements of a project. Different projects may have different
needs from each process.

• Scope Management
• Schedule Management
• Budget Management
• Quality Management
• Team Management
• Stakeholder Management
• Information Management
• Risk Management
• Contract Management

Project Manager and Responsibilities

Project managers (PMs) are

responsible for planning, organizing,
and directing the completion of specific
projects for an organization while
ensuring these projects are on time, on
budget, and within scope.
Project Manager Roles
There are three critical roles of the project manager:

• Integrator – ensures all the project activities,

strategies and approaches are an integrated effort.

• Communicator – most of the work is spent here,

communicating with all stakeholders and building the
right support and relationships.

• Leader – motivating and inspiring a team to deliver

the project work by providing a vision and direction
