RA DI US: C Center

The document provides information about the standard form of the equation of a circle. It gives the center-radius form of a circle as (x-h)2 + (y-k)2 = r2, where (h, k) are the coordinates of the center and r is the radius. It provides examples of writing the equation of a circle in this form for different circle centers and radii. It also explains how to transform the standard form into the general form Ax + By + Cx + Dy + E = 0.

Transforming standard to general form
Example no. 01:
Transform (x – 1)2 + (y + 1)2 = 4 to general form.
Solution:
Expand the squares as a perfect square trinomials.
(x – 1) + (y + 1) = 4
2 2 x2 + y2 -2x + 2y + 2 = 4

(x – 1)(x – 1) + (y + 1)(y + 1) = 4 x2 + y2 -2x + 2y + 2 – 4 = 0

x2 + y2 -2x + 2y - 2 = 0
x2 – 2x + 1 + y2 + 2y + 1 = 4

x2 + y2 -2x + 2y + 1 + 1 = 4 GENERAL FORM
