Mobile Number Portbility: Submited By: Pankaj (7) Amit (6) Sumit

Mobile number portability (MNP) allows mobile subscribers to retain their existing number when switching service providers. There are three types of portability: location portability to retain a number when changing locations; service portability to retain a number when changing technologies; and operator portability to retain a number when changing service providers within the same area. MNP was launched in India in 2009 to increase competition and give subscribers the ability to change providers while keeping their numbers. It provides benefits to both subscribers through lower prices and improved service quality, and to providers through increased competition and incentives to innovate.
