Evolution of SAP Simple Finance

• The move to in-memory computing on the SAP HANA platform represents the most
significant innovation in enterprise applications in recent history. In-memory computing
opens the door to unprecedented capabilities such as flexible, real-time reporting and
establishing a solid foundation for predictive analytics.
• Simple Finance is a natural evolution of the HANA platform. As in-memory computing has
matured, it has grown from a reporting solution to a database solution to a platform off of
which all ERP can run.

Key Controlling Functionalities
CO-FI Integration Changes

New settings for CO integration

• Configuration for document type
• Ledger Assignment for CO version
• Intercompany Clearing Accounts

Current GL Account Mapping for FI-CO-Real time Integration is obsolete

• Secondary cost elements are part of chart of account and also used General Ledger
• Secondary cost elements are no longer mapped to GL Accounts

19 SAP Simple Finance – Controlling Changes Copyright © 2015 Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved.
Mapping Variants

Mapping Variant for CO

Transaction to Document
Types
• Groups the assignments
• Separate assignment for cross
company code transactions
possible
• Mapping variant …0001 is
checked
• Migration creates mapping
variant …0100.

Note: Assign document type to a free range of the number range object RF_BELEG.

Default Values

Default Values for Posting

in Controlling
• Default ledger group is used, if
no ledger group is entered in CO
transactions (KB11, KB41)
• If no default ledger group is
configured, then all ledgers are
updated
• Document Type Mapping Variant
is used to derive document type
from CO transaction (see
previous slide)

Note: Setting may be changed at any time and then will be used to future postings.

Ledger Assignment for CO

This view defines, which

ledger contains actual data
for CO (Version 0)
• In SAP sFIN OP 1503 Version 0
must be assigned to the leading
ledger in all company codes,
which are assigned to a
controlling area
• Multiple versions are not
currently supported for actual
data

Note: CO transactions can write to several ledgers, but read data from one ledger

WIP Analysis
Work in Progress (WIP):
• WIP Positions are now available with a higher granularity that shows the underlying primary and
secondary costs
• The Analysis is achieved by linking GL WIP line items with settlement line items via the order
number in the GL Line item.

Quantity Fields: Standard Units of Measure

Additional quantity fields and corresponding unit of measures (for example,

kilos delivered and shipped) are supported:

• Additional quantity fields can be defined

• Quantity is related to a base dimension such as mass or time
• Quantity fields can be updated using a BAdI
FCO_COEP_QUANTITY.
• Standard Unit of measure can be specified for each quantity field
• If Standard UoM is specified the quantity is persisted using that
UoM

Tasks no longer at period-end as part of the depreciation run

31 SAP Simple Finance – Controlling Changes Copyright © 2015 Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved.
Accelerated Month End Close

Period close and reporting processes in profitability and cost analysis are
based on line items rather than persistent aggregates.

Complex calculations that are performed at period close, for example, the
calculation of work in process at actual costs, determination of production
variances for production orders, and results analysis for sales orders, are
pushed down to the SAP HANA database in order to accelerate the close.

In addition, the selection of the relevant data for period close processes
such as overhead calculation and settlement has been adjusted to take
advantage of the SAP HANA database in-memory capabilities.

Eliminates end-of-period batch job bottlenecks.

Continuous Intercompany Reconciliation.

Enhanced reports use a logical view that combines the financial accounting
(FI) line item, the CO line item, and the CO-PA dimensions (where available)
to provide an income statement broken down by market segments.

Unified Master Data
GL Account & Cost Element – Details

 Chart of Accounts covers balance sheet and all P&L accounts

 Cost elements are part of Chart of Accounts and move into GL account logic
that means
 No time dependency for cost elements any longer
 No default account assignments in cost element master

 P&L accounts can be classified as cost elements that means cost elements
became GL accounts with a specific semantic

 Cost element type remains. So secondary cost elements are still only posted
from CO allocations
 Default account assignments maintained in cost element master are
migrated to OKB9

40 SAP Simple Finance – Controlling Changes Copyright © 2015 Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved.
Unified Master Data
Effects on reporting
 Secondary cost elements appear in GL reporting.
 Postings on secondary cost elements are always balanced to zero
 In ECC postings on secondary cost elements effecting GL reporting
entities (e.g. profit center, functional area) created real time integration
postings.
 The real time integration mapped secondary to primary accounts.
 In the past postings on secondary cost elements appeared in GL
reporting on primary accounts.
 With SAP Accounting postings on secondary cost elements appear
directly on the secondary cost element in GL reporting.
 The P&L version have to be updated accordingly

Universal Journal Entry – Table View

Architecture
 Concept: “Take the best of all
worlds” (e.g. ledger, market
segment, coding block, etc.)
 ONE line item table with full
detail for all applications - for
instant insight & extensibility
 This replaces the “logical
document” of release 1.0.
 Secondary cost elements are
G/L accounts.
 Data stored only once: no
reconciliation needed by design
 Reduction of memory footprint
through elimination of
redundancy.

Secondary cost elements

 Fast multi-dimensional reporting
are now G/L accounts !
possible without replicating data
to business warehouse (BW).
 If BW is in place anyway, only
one single BI extractor needed
(instead of many today).

The New journal entry (header and item)

The new journal entry consists out of a header

(table BKPF) and the respective items (table
BKPF ACDOCA)
 There are rare exceptions, where only entries
in ACDOCA are written and not a respective
document header (e.g. carry forward,
corrections in migration)
 The corresponding line items have ‘artificial
ACDOCA document numbers’ beginning with a letter
(e.g. ‘A’)
Table contains all fields (360 +) needed for
G/L, CO, AA, ML, PA

Multi-GAAP capability through “RLDNR”

6 character field for the item no.

23 digits for currency fields

46 SAP Simple Finance – Controlling Changes Copyright © 2015 Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved.
BSEG and ACDOCA
ACDOCA and BSEG do not store completely
identical dimensions
 There is a bigger overlapping part
 ACDOCA has fields from CO, ML, AA that are not in BSEG
 BSEG has dedicated fields for open item
management/payment that are not in ACDOCA

ACDOCA and BSEG do not store completely the

same content
 Due to 999 document lines limitation, BSEG is usually
aggregated. This limitation does not exist in ACDOCA
 ACDOCA stores the full detail needed for CO, ML, AA
 ACDOCA stores all CO internal postings. These are not
posted to BSEG
 ACDOCA stores carry forward and correction lines from
migration. These lines are not stored in BSEG.

The definition of BSEG do not foresee

 To store different GAAPS in parallel (key like ledger is
missing)
 To store “split” document lines (receivables/payables)

BSEG was designed to handle efficiently open item

management and payment
 Open items must not split, doubled or tripled according to
the number of GAAPS

Meaningful and richer data

We get richer data faster:

 Profitability characteristics are
immediately derived at the
point in time of each “primary”
document.
 Approach: Take all information
that is available and known at
this point in time. Post to a
“CO-object” and fill market
segment attributes in one
Example: Posting of salaries and immediate assignment of step.
the respective market segment
 No settlement run needed to
show relevant market segment
G/L Account Cost Center Market Credit Debit information in profitability
Segment
 We write a market segment
information to each P&L line
Salaries and 1000 HANA 20000 € immediately
wages (Development
Financials)  Example on the left:
Immediate assignment of a
market segment to salary
costs

48 SAP Simple Finance – Controlling Changes Copyright © 2015 Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved.
Real time richer data

We get richer data faster:

 Full level of detail stored for use
in all components. Example:
Causing Fixed Asset stored in in
cost center reporting.
 New structural capabilities:
Ability to analyze costs for all
cost object types together
 Example for air travel costs that
is analyzed by different CO-
objects in one report
 Further specific analysis by
market segment is possible
without waiting for the closing
process to happen.
 Full level of detail stored for use
in all components. Example:
Fixed Asset stored in cost
center reporting.

Coding Block extensibility “CO-PA” extensibility

Capabilities:
 Unified Journal can be extended with customer fields.
 SFIN2.0 offers P&L line extension using “CO-PA capabilities”, i.e. field definition including the
rich derivation tools.
 It also offers Coding Block extensibility.
 The new HANA based reporting of all components can use the customer fields.

50 SAP Simple Finance – Controlling Changes Copyright © 2015 Deloitte Development LLC. All rights reserved.
Profitability Analysis - Enhancements

Account - Based CO-PA

 Split of cost of Goods sold posting on multiple accounts (by cost component
 Split of Production variance posting on multiple accounts (differentiation of
fixed /variable amount).
 Three new quantity fields in CO line items + BAdI for conversion of logistic
quantities to common quantities (Product sold in different box sizes-but KPI
in Finance is calculated on tons/KG of products)
 It is planned to further enhance account-based CO-PA

Costing - Based CO-PA

 Product continues to exist and be supported, but no enhancements with
SAP Accounting
 Customers can run account-based and costing-based CO-PA in parallel
 Customers should asses their valuation in FI versus valuation in costing-
based CO-PA
 If different, continue using costing-based CO-PA
 If the same, customer may consider switching to account-based CO-PA
