Causes of WWII 2021

The interwar period saw the rise of extremism and nationalism following World War 1 and the Great Depression. Rise of Hitler
 In 1933 Hitler came to power and became the
Chancellor . Adolf Hitler became involved
with the fledgling Nazi Party after the First
World War, and set the violent tone of the
movement early.

Countries all over the world were suffering the effects from the world

POLICY OF APPEASEMENT
 Britain signed the naval agreement with
Germany in 1935. For the next three years,
Britain followed a policy of giving Hitler what
he wanted- a policy that became known as
Appeasement.
Why did Britain and France Follow this
Policy
 We must not repeat the horrors of the Great
war
 Britain is not ready for war
 Hitler is right-the treaty of Versailles is unfair
 At least Hitler is standing up to Communism
 USA will not support us if we stand up to
Hitler
Consequences of appeasement policy
 It encouraged Hitler to be aggressive

 It allowed Germany to grow too strong

 It put much trust in Hitler’s Promises

 It scared the USSR

 Re-militarzation of Rhineland Area


The Sudetenland, 1938
 It was German populated area and wanted to
be with Germany. First Hitler captured this
area and then invaded Czechoslovakia.
 Hitler next target was likely to b Poland –strip
of former German Land in Poland known as
Polish Corridor. Britain and France told Hitler
if he invaded Poland they would declare war
on Germany.
 Non-Aggression Pact- signed b/w USSR and
Germany on 24th August 1939 agreed not to
attack one another, also known as Nazi-Soviet
Pact. Plus divide Poland b/w them
Invasion of Poland
 On 1 September 1939 German army invaded
Poland from the Wes. On 17 September Soviet
forces invaded Poland from East. Britain and
France did keep their pledge. On 2nd September
they declare war on Germany.
How did the war become a World War
 Pearl Harbor Attack- Japan wanted to create its
empire in Asia, so it can be control the
resources in Asia. First she invaded China and
then tried to build its supremacy in Pacific
Ocean by attacking US navy fleets on Pearl
Harbor on 7 December, 1941. The next day US
declare war on Japan and after three days later,
on 11 December, Hitler declare war on USA.

D-Day and the End of War in Europe
 When the Americans entered the war in late in
1941, President Roosevelt believed that the
American priority was the war against
Germany rather than the war against Japan.

 The war in the Pacific and the Far East-the


defeat of Japan and the Atomic bomb
Affects of war on World Politics
 After twenty years the war, Britain lost almost
its empire

 The war had shown that the most powerful


countries in the world were the capitalist USA
and communist USSR.

 Crippled Europe Economy which forced them


to cooperate and as a result European Union
formulated.
