Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV)

Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) is a system that recirculates crankcase gases back into the engine's intake manifold. It prevents buildup of sludge in the engine and reduces emissions. The PCV system routes crankcase vapors from the valve cover and oil pan, through a hose and PCV valve, and into the intake manifold where they can be burned during normal combustion.
