What is Project?
• It is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result that
is characterized by the distinctiveness of its general conditions and constraints.
• Temporary endeavor means it has defined beginning and end in time, and therefore
defined scope and resources.
• Unique product, service or result is means that it is not a routine operation but a specific
set of operations designed to accomplish singular goal.
• Distinct conditions of a project include the objectives of the projects, the time frame for
executing it, as well as financial and capacity related restrictions
• Example of Projects:
• Dam construction.
• Organizing an Award function.
• R&D Project for developing new folding screen technology.
What is SAP PS?
• SAP PS (Project Systems) is a project management tool that assists user throughout all
the phases (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, Closing) of a
project.
• SAP PS is highly integrated with other SAP application components uch as
Procurement and Logistic Execution, SAP Financials, SAP Controlling and SAP Human
Capital Management, SAP it ensures that necessary business processes are handled
quickly and efficiently.

• SAP PS provides WBS and Network as structures to map any project.
• WBS is used to organize a project in the form of hierarchy; Netoworks on the other
hand are used to represent the individual project activities together with their temporal
and logical relationships in other words the flow of the project.
• Project can be mapped using only WBS or only Network or using both.
